Offer Description
CALL FOR RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP
The University of Coimbra opens a call for one research fellowship in the framework of the La Caixa Foundation Postdoctoral Junior Leader Fellowships - Call 2022 project "Deciphering the neonatal shift in neurovascular coupling: a multimodal approach" (reference: 116303), financed by Fundación Bancaria Caixa d'Estalvis I Pensiones de Barcelona, in the following conditions:
Scientific area: Neurosciences, biology, physiology, biotechnology, biochemistry, Bioengineering, Biomedical Sciences, Medicine or life sciences.
Skills/Qualifications/Admission requirements: Candidates should have a Master degree in the Life Sciences or similar areas (Neurosciences, biology, physiology, biotechnology, biochemistry, Bioengineering, Biomedical Sciences, Medicine, etc.), and must be enrolled in a course that does not confer an academic degree.
According to the RBI in paragraph 5 of article 6, it only admits BI attributions to graduates and masters enrolled in cycles of study that do not confer an academic degree who have not exceeded two years to be fulfilled in different scholarship contracts.
Work plan/Objectives: The candidate will be working on projects centered around brain vascular biology and neurogliovascular unit development. The primary focus of the position is to assist research related to a La Caixa funded project to identify the origins of the developmental shift in Neurovascular Coupling. We want to understand when and why the cerebrovascular system starts to respond to neuronal activation during the neonatal period, with particular attention on the astrocytic end feet development and maturation. This aim will be achieved through a multidisciplinary team with cutting-edge methodologies (fMRI, photoacoustic, multiphoton microscopy, and mass spectroscopy) to study neonatal brain development in the living mouse.
Main role of this position:
Carry out research experiments as directed but, ideally, with great independence;
Contribute to team objectives and work alongside other members of the team in a collegiate manner, setting positive examples by showing a commitment to achieving results;
Ensure smooth running of the research laboratory: maintaining laboratory stock materials and inventory as well as providing assistance in purchasing/ordering;
You will be encouraged to have independent work so that you can also publish and develop scientifically.
Regime: The attribution of the fellowship does not generate or entitle a relation of a legal-labour nature, and the fellowship is undertaken in an exclusive dedication regime. The fellowship holder is awarded the Fellowship Statute of the UC, in its current wording, according to the Research Fellowship Holder Statute, and according to the Regulation for Research Fellowships of the Foundation for Science and Technology, both in their current wording.
Location: ICNAS/CIBIT at the University of Coimbra.
Duration: 6 months.
Renewal: Eventually renewable.
Financial conditions: The amount of the fellowship is €1259,64 corresponding to the monthly compensation stipulated in the FCT table ( FCT table), plus social security ( Seguro Social Voluntário, first level contributions) and personal accidents insurance. The payment will be made by bank transfer. This amount will not be increased during the entire period of the fellowship duration.
Selection methods: Curricular Evaluation (50%) and Interview (50%).
Selection criteria:
In Curricular Evaluation (A), the following criteria will be considered:
Academic background (45%);
Knowledge in animal experimentation (35%);
Adequacy of the candidate's profile to the work plan to be developed (20%);
In Interview, the following criteria will be considered:
Motivation and interest (50%);
Knowledge and profile appropriate to the functions to be developed (40%);
Ability to express oneself and verbal fluency (10%);
The Final Classification (CF) corresponds to the sum of the percentual of each individual criteria.
Preference will be given to candidates with knowledge working in experimental animal models (whether in mice or rats) and who have authorization to carry out animal experimentation. Candidates must also demonstrate their skills in cellular and molecular biology techniques such as immunofluorescence. Knowledge on bioinformatics will be valued.
Formalization of application: The following documents must accompany the submission of the application:
Certificate of qualifications;
Certificate of the animal experimentation course;
References;
Optional during the application phase: Document proving the enrollment and registration in a cycle of studies, or in the "Course not conferring an academic degree" listed on the application notice. This registration can be made at any time after the application, as long as it occurs before the fellowship contract is signed;
The following declaration, which must be fulfilled in a specific form on the apply.uc.pt platform.
Declaration on the honor of the candidate(s) with the indication of the fellowship(s) of the typology to which the contest was held and the respective duration(s).
Applicants with academic degrees obtained abroad will be required to present a Certificate of Recognition in accordance with applicable law. This document is mandatory only in the contractualization phase.
Submission of applications: Between 18/12/2024 and 09/01/2025.
Additional information: The evaluation results will be announced within 90 working days after the end of the applications submission deadline, by notifying the applicants via email. After the announcement of the results, candidates are considered automatically notified to, if they wish to do so, comment on the results on a preliminary hearing period within 10 days after that date. After this, the selected candidates will have to declare in writing their acceptance. Unless a justification worthy of consideration is presented, if the declaration is not submitted within the referred period, it is considered that the candidate waivers the fellowship. In case of resignation or withdrawal of the selected candidate, the next candidate with the highest evaluation score will be notified immediately.
Once the selection process is completed, the fellowship contract will be drawn up in accordance with the draft contract provided by the FCT.
After the contracted period, the fellowship holder and supervisor must prepare the final report in accordance with the respective assessment criteria that were established.
