Postdoctoral Position (Date Palm Population Genetics)In a pioneering international initiative, Cornell University and Weill Cornell Medical College established Weill Cornell Medicine - Qatar (WCM-Q) in 2001 through a unique partnership with the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science, and Community Development.The Functional Genomics Laboratory, Date Palm Genetics group at WCM-Q invites applications for a postdoctoral position: Postdoctoral Associate in Genetic Medicine.We are a diverse group, and this position specifically will be studying the population genetics of Date Palm using a diverse set of already established genomics resources at WCM-Q.The successful candidate will work closely with the Lead Principal Investigator of a two-year QRDI-funded project, focused on analyzing and interpreting date palm population genetics. This research aims to use related Phoenix species to better understand climate adaptation in the history of date palm. The candidate will use high-quality Phoenix genome sequences and an extremely diverse database of date palm genomes for the research.Must HavePh.D. degree in bioinformatics, population genetics, genetics, or a related fieldExpertise in population genetics and bioinformaticsProficiency in genome analysis, such as alignment, selective sweep detection, phylogenetic analyses, etc.Strong analytical skills and experience working with large-scale genomics datasetsStrong experience in programming in R and/or Python and command line tools for genome sequence analysisShould HaveSkills in bioinformatics data analysis, population genetic analysis, and general genomics skills such as whole genome alignment, gene annotation, demography, gene pathway analysis, etc.A solid track record with at least 2-3 peer-reviewed articles as a first author, demonstrating the ability to independently conduct research, analyze data, and publish findings in high-impact journalsFamiliarity with advanced statistical methods in genetic research, as well as experience working in multidisciplinary teamsEssential SkillsHighly motivatedOrganizational skillsManuscript writing experienceAble to work independentlyWCM-Q is located in Education City among other American universities in Doha, which is a rapidly growing research hub. The WCM-Q research program offers a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment, endowed with a comprehensive support infrastructure.
