Nursing Unit Manager-SKC-SKMC - Clinic 4 - Nursing

Responsible for the implementation and delivery of age-appropriate patient care congruent with the mission, vision, and values of the Organization. Responsible for ensuring nursing staff adhere to the Professional Code of Conduct and Scope of Practice of the regulatory body. Manages clinical and operational activities and ensures the provision of optimum clinical care, customer satisfaction, and patient safety. Leads the Nurses Leadership Team and is responsible for the overall service delivery. Qualification: Required: * NLT 6 years clinical experience in an appropriate & relevant healthcare setting post qualification and * NLT 2 years in Senior Charge Nurse (S.C.N.) position, OR * NLT 3 years in a Charge Nurse Position. Experience: Experienced Renal Manager who understands the operations of dialysis/hemodialysis of the center and has the leadership ability to oversee the unit. Key Responsibilities:
  1. Liaising with Nursing Senior Leadership to ensure efficient healthcare delivery.
  2. Act as focal point for all healthcare issues related to nursing.
  3. Participate in budget preparations and budget control for respective nursing unit/ward.
  4. Provide senior nursing leadership with clinical and administrative reports.
  5. Support and work in partnership with nursing executive in setting the strategic direction for the nursing/midwifery department.
  6. Take a lead role in coordinating hospital services during their shift.
  7. Support an environment that allows staff to acquire skills and develop new ideas that ensure commitment to the organizational goals.
  8. Address immediate legal and ethical dilemmas in a professional, collaborative manner and refer to the relevant person for action.
  9. Participate in the recruitment process when necessary.
  10. Manage disasters, codes, and incidents as per the Organization’s policy and procedures.
  11. Provide leadership in critical thinking, conflict management, and problem-solving.
  12. Support evidence-based practice, quality initiatives, and promote a healthy workplace environment.
  13. Maintain appropriate contact with the organization’s nursing executive/administrator on call providing timely and accurate information.
  14. Monitor and evaluate appropriate utilization of staff in collaboration with the nursing team.
  15. Ensure that bed allocation and staff skill mix is appropriate for patient condition.
  16. Collaborate with personnel from non-nursing departments/disciplines regarding issues that may negatively impact patient care; facilitate solutions as needed.
  17. Participate in interdisciplinary or interdepartmental committees and may be required to chair or lead such groups.
  18. Act as a change agent for the organization.
Management of Clinical Practice:
  1. Facilitate effective patient flow utilizing bed capacity and staffing resources appropriately.
  2. Monitor and review staff skill mix and align staffing and workload according to patient acuity.
  3. Build relationships with staff, peers, and colleagues to support interdisciplinary and interdepartmental planning aimed at improving patient outcomes.
  4. Promote continuity of care that is patient-centered, outcome-oriented, and focused towards discharge planning.
  5. Ensure that quality standards of nursing documentation are maintained according to organizational policy.
  6. Perform hospital rounds to assess, identify problems, determine solutions, and guide teams in clinical and operational management of services.
Communication:
  1. Liaise effectively with other health care providers both internal and external to the organization.
  2. Maintain confidentiality and security of patient, family, and organization information in accordance with the confidentiality policy.
  3. Facilitate effective communication between the patient, family, and the interdisciplinary health care team as required.
  4. Communicate with all unit(s)/departments as appropriate to maximize efficiency and expedite the admission, transfer, and discharge process.
  5. Use information technology to access, transmit, and produce information as necessary.
Performance Improvement/Risk Management:
  1. Support a culture of performance improvement.
  2. Monitor and evaluate the quality of nursing care provided.
  3. Actively participate in accreditation activities.
  4. Undertake patient and environmental risk assessments and document corrective action to improve patient outcomes as required.
  5. Audit compliance with organizational documentation standards.
  6. Support and participate in ongoing educational and research programs within the Nursing Department and the organization.
  7. Monitor and support the organizational Key Performance Indicators and Clinical Indicators and reinforce corrective action to improve clinical service.
  8. Coordinate, monitor, and report incidents occurring within the organization after business hours facilitating corrective or preventative action as required.
  9. Minimize exposure to incidents of infection/cross-infection of patients, staff, visitors, and the general public. Ensure staff adheres to the infection control policies and procedures of the organization.
  10. Monitor compliance with International and HAAD Patient Safety Goals.
  11. Report on nursing department activity e.g. sick leave and occupancy rates.
Education:
  1. Support staff to provide a suitable environment for patient and family learning.
  2. Be a clinical/administrative resource.
  3. Engage in health promotion activities in the organization and community.
Professional Responsibilities:
  1. Identify and utilize various mechanisms to assist in the development of managerial and leadership skills.
  2. Develop and achieve annual performance criteria/goals in conjunction with the Line Manager.
