Vice President, Group Sustainability - Business Management

The VP of Business Management for the Sustainability unit in Malaysia will primarily be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day administrative and operational functions of the unit. This includes financial operations, recruitment and hiring as well as ensuring execution of the MY-related sustainability strategy for the department to enable operational excellence, resource management and cross-functional collaboration to drive the organization’s success. The roleholder will report to the Head of Sustainability, Malaysia. Job Description Sustainability Strategic Initiatives
  • Support department head in developing and executing the Sustainability Strategy, including activities such as project-managing MY-related strategic initiatives and providing regular updates to the relevant stakeholders and/or management and Board committees.
  • Drive annual planning and prioritisation of MY-related sustainability initiatives, including regular tracking of progress against success measures.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships and be a liaison with key external stakeholders such as government ministries and industry working groups, ensuring the projects/initiatives meet the quality expectations set by the Steering Committee and/or department head.
  • Lead collaboration efforts between pillars/Business Units/Business Enablers to achieve the goal of supporting business growth.
  • Support department head in preparing management updates for forums such as MY Business Review Committee (MY BRC) and MY Management Committee (MYMC).
  • Support department head and MY CEO in preparing materials for external engagements such as speaking engagements, panel discussions, presentations and thought leadership articles.
Hiring and Finance Operations
  • Lead the development and management of the unit’s operational budget, ensuring cost-effective operations while aligning this with the organization and unit’s strategic priorities. This includes proactively managing the budget planning process, budget KPIs, forecasting and regular reporting while ensuring reasonable accuracy and timeliness throughout the process.
  • Responsible for working closely with Finance teams on local finance activities such as reconciliation, chargeouts for basis of charge, etc.
  • Support department head in managing end-to-end hiring and HR-related activities such as talent identification and management, interviews, onboarding and offboarding while ensuring the unit’s compliance with HR-related matters such as check-ins, mandatory learning, etc.
Other Responsibilities
  • Responsible for managing the strategic sourcing/procurement needs for the unit while ensuring adherence to the relevant policies and procedures.
  • Support department head in consistently improving the unit’s Organization Health Index, by ensuring action plans are relevant, impactful and executed in a timely manner. This includes overseeing employee engagement activities such as team building activities.
  • Oversee the department’s administrative needs such as availability of workstations, hardware and software, departmental meetings/townhalls, etc.
  • Support department head in coordinating the unit’s consolidated individual and collective scorecard/KPIs.
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in financial or sustainability-related discipline from a recognised institution (preferably in Sustainability or Banking/Finance).
  • Not required, but a diploma or certification related to Environmental or Social issues would be beneficial.
  • At least 10 years relevant working experience, with more than 3 years in a Sustainability strategy, business management and/or business transformation.
  • Experience in banking/financial services is preferred.
  • A strong passion for sustainability, with good understanding of global material issues such as climate change, biodiversity loss, human rights and economic inclusion.
  • Experience in change management, including good communication, facilitation, and consensus building skills and management.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Exceptional strategic thinking, project management, problem solving and organisational skills, with experience in developing and managing high-performing teams in a dynamic environment.
  • Effective teamwork and strong stakeholder management.
