General Summary The Project Accountant/ Analyst (Business Partner), under the leadership of the Senior Manager of Revenue Cycle, Grants, and Contracts, is responsible for full cycle accounting and financial management of their assigned projects, serving as a Business Partner to assigned project managers to ensure projects are managed in a compliant and financially disciplined way. This includes maintaining relationships with funders, customers, and program managers, preparing and reconciling financial reports and analyses; preparing, amending, and renewing project budgets; assisting project managers in managing funds in a manner that maximizes financial outcomes; preparing accounting calculations and journal entries; and reconciling related revenues and receivables. Work Location The position will be based in the Chicagoland area at the GTI Energy Headquarters. We offer a hybrid/core work week, where employees are remote Mondays and Fridays, and required to be on-site Tuesday through Thursday. Primary Responsibilities
  • Act as a business partner to assigned project managers, providing financial tools, training, reporting and insights needed to manage projects in a compliant and financially disciplined way.
  • Provide monthly reporting of budget to actual expenditures, burn rates, and remaining funds for all assigned projects to project managers; review key metrics with managers and ensure funds are managed on an ongoing basis.
  • Assist proposal and program staff with preparation of budgets for new and existing projects and proposals as needed.
  • Complete project set up for new assigned projects in the CostPoint ERP.
  • Prepare and reconcile required financial reports for all assigned projects by the required due dates.
  • Accelerate GTI’s cash flows by submitting high-quality bills, expenditure vouchers, and payment requests to funders as quickly as possible, ensuring all information required by the funder/customer is complete and accurate. Attach all required documentation for payment.
  • Record all submitted vouchers and invoices in the accounts receivable subledger immediately following submission.
  • Analyze expenses for assigned projects monthly, preparing and posting reclassifications as needed.
  • Prepare & record accurate monthly revenue accruals for assigned projects by the agreed upon dates.
  • Reconcile revenue and receivable accounts monthly for assigned cost centers.
  • Prepare and maintain copies of project budgets, reports, vouchers, reconciliations, etc. in an accessible, organized, well-documented, and auditable fashion.
  • Monitor and review open accounts receivable to identify adjustments, refunds, write offs, and collection activities needed. Maintain clean and accurate accounts receivable balances by processing adjustments and refunds and requesting approval for write offs timely.
  • Prepare and submit reports and performance metrics to the Senior Manager of Revenue Cycle, Grants, and Contracts regularly.
  • Conduct ongoing contract and fiscal compliance audits for assigned cost centers.
  • Develop and maintain tracking systems to monitor performance outcomes to ensure optimal performance and compliance with funding standards, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Communicate with customers and funders to resolve issues in a timely and professional manner, providing exemplary customer service.
  • Take accountability for ongoing learning and development, maintaining current knowledge of funder processes and compliance requirements.
  • Comply with laws and regulations, accounting standards, policies, and guidance by maintaining knowledge, enforcing adherence to requirements, filing required reports, and advising management on needed actions.
  • Supports the annual financial audit and single audit as well as funder-specific audits by preparing assigned schedules and documentation.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by the Senior Manager of Revenue Cycle, Grants, and Contracts, which may include, among other things, subrecipient monitoring, reporting, cost claim preparation, report preparation, analyses, etc.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics
  • Strong understanding of funder contract requirements, policies and procedures and regulatory requirements related to funding.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills. Coordination and communication with program managers, funders, auditors, and other key stakeholders is required.
  • Ability to ensure customer satisfaction through process of monitoring, developing, improving, and delivering excellent service.
  • Excellent computer skills including expert Excel skills and intermediate Word, PowerPoint & Outlook.
  • Skill and ability in accounting and fiscal management.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial data and prepare financial reports, analyses, reconciliations, budgets, and projections.
  • Ability to develop and manage action plans and projects and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Well organized, highly detailed oriented, accuracy driven.
  • Open to new approaches and takes steps to increase knowledge, skills and abilities, both from within and outside the organization.

Education and Experience
  • BA or BS in Accounting or Finance or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Grant management certification required within 2 years of hire.
  • Three to five years project accounting and grant/ contract accounting experience.
  • Extensive computer experience including advanced experience in Microsoft Excel, accounting software and the internet.
  • Project accounting software experience required; Deltek and/or CostPoint experience a plus.
  • Experience preparing budgets, financial statements and reports, and analyses.
  • Experience with complex Federal Government grants/ contracts and knowledge of cost accounting principles of allowability, allocability, and reasonableness, along with characterization of direct and indirect costs, in compliance with the FAR (i.e., 31), Uniform Guidance (i.e., 2CFR200), and Government Cost Accounting Standards.
Pay Transparency The salary range for this position is $80,000 - $115,000 USD annually. This salary range is GTI Energy’s good faith estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on a number of factors including, but not limited to, GTI Energy’s business or organizational needs and an individual’s relevant experience, education, qualifications, certifications, skills, seniority, geographic location, and/or performance. Compensation details listed in this posting reflect the base hourly rate, monthly rate, or annual salary only, and do not include bonus. The range listed is just one component of GTI Energy’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, paid time off, and region-specific benefits.
