To reach these goals we need your POWER! We are looking for a Recycling and Waste Management Specialist based out of the St. Thomas, Ontario office. As a Recycling and Waste Management Specialist, you will lead the implementation of global waste management plans, ensuring efficient handling, transportation, and disposal of waste in compliance with regulatory standards. This role combines strategic and operational responsibilities, including developing waste management processes, conducting audits, and managing relationships with disposal companies. As the ideal candidate, you will support continuous improvement initiatives, contribute to sustainability goals, and optimize waste operations to align with global best practices. Strong organizational skills, regulatory knowledge, and experience in waste management are essential. This is a flex hybrid model, requiring 2 days in the St. Thomas office.* Primary Responsibilities

  • Plan the implementation of the global waste management concept and adapt it to local needs.
  • Develop waste center layouts and processes in collaboration with the Planning Department.
  • Plan the implementation of waste handling, transportation, and storage solutions to local needs.
  • Plan the implementation of containment handling and purchasing, ensuring all processes are efficient and cost-effective.
  • Conduct audits of disposal companies, including preparation, implementation, and follow-up.
  • Scout and evaluate potential disposal partners to support business objectives.
  • Manage ongoing relationships with disposal companies, ensuring alignment with technical and operational standards.
  • Provide regular reports contributing to lessons learned and continuous improvement working groups.
  • Manage contracts with third parties for the disposal of specific waste streams (e.g., canteen waste, packaging waste).
  • Maintain electronic records of waste disposal certificates from disposal companies.
  • Verify invoices for transportation and disposal costs.
  • Adapt waste transportation logistics, including creating checklists, ordering disposal services, preparing documents, and managing weighing and transport preparation.
  • Conduct testing in accordance with the Commercial Waste Ordinance and lead audits, including preparation and follow-up.
  • Adaptation of digital systems based on local requirements.
  • Serve as the contact person for authorities, disposal companies, and forwarding agents.
  • Ensure compliance with local waste management regulations.
  • Oversee tendering processes for disposal contracts covering industrial and other waste types.
Desired Skills
  • Undergraduate Degree in Environmental Science, Waste Management, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in waste management, with a strong focus on regulatory compliance and efficient disposal practices within industrial or corporate settings.
  • Effective communication skills for liaising with management, cross-functional teams, external partners, and regulatory agencies, ensuring transparency and fostering collaboration in waste management operations.
  • Familiarity with technical auditing processes and compliance standards for waste disposal and recycling partners.
  • Strong knowledge of waste management technologies, disposal companies, materials handling, and sustainability practices.
  • Proven ability to implement and optimize waste management processes within an operational setting.
  • Experience managing complex, cross-border waste management projects under time constraints.
  • Proficiency in business English; additional language skills, particularly in German or Mandarin, are advantageous.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications and waste management software (e.g., environmental compliance tracking tools).
  • Willingness to travel nationally and internationally up to 30%, including potential trips to Europe and Asia.
  • German language skills are considered an asset.
