merchandiser is a retail inventory specialist who ensures that products are available at the right place and time to boost sales and profits. Their responsibilities include: Planning: Collaborating with buyers to plan product ranges and stock plans and creating sales forecasts Managing inventory: Monitoring inventory levels managing stock distribution and handling supply issues Displaying products: Working with visual display staff to create attractive displays that feature relevant products and sales Analyzing data: Analyzing data and trends to predict sales and profits and monitoring competitors performance Negotiating: Negotiating with suppliers to secure favorable prices and terms Communicating: Communicating customer problems to the company and collaborating with other departments Creating budgets: Creating budgets and financial forecasts for the store Training: Training junior staff at store locations Merchandisers may work in a general position or specialize as either Retail Merchandisers or Visual Merchandisers. Visual Merchandisers focus on designing the store layout and product displays. Merchandisers typically need a high school diploma or GED 12 years of experience working in retail or merchandising and excellent analytical and communication skills. meeting with clients virtually or during sales visits. demonstrating and presenting products. establishing new business. maintaining accurate records. attending trade exhibitions, conferences and meetings. reviewing sales performance. negotiating contracts and packages.
