Established in 2010, the Energy Research Institute @ NTU (ERI@N) is a pan-university research institute that focuses on systems-level research for tropical megacities. It performs translational research that covers the energy value chain from generation to innovative end-use solutions, motivated by industrialisation and deployment. We are looking for a Programme Director to lead an ERI@N Interdisciplinary Research Programme focusing on Multi Energy Systems which will enable future digital grids, microgrids and interconnection of these systems to other energy sources including the future hydrogen economy, large scale renewables including renewable imports, thermal energy storage and solutions like waste heat recovery. The programme includes all aspects including digitalization and controls, energy trading, simulation, digital twins and living labs supporting physical demonstrators at scale. Key Responsibilities: Participate in or lead research and development, demonstration, and deployment of innovative energy solutions, that entail research in energy systems and alternative energy sources. Identify strategic R&D focus and lead technical roadmap development and technology assessments for various energy domains. Recommend and support in development of strategic capabilities and core competence in targeted areas. Facilitate and lead joint research and development agreements such as Joint Industry Program, Research Collaboration Agreements with Industry or University partners and related programs. Manage projects in the group and be the Principal Investigator (PI) of key projects to ensure projects are executed to meet the scientific / technical targets. Provide scientific / technical leadership and mentorship to members of the research group, including relationship management with stakeholders (government agencies, key research partners, NTU Management and industry partners). Advise the research team in preparing grant proposals, intellectual property filings, presentations in meetings, scientific conferences; publishing research papers in journals / conference proceedings as defined in the project scope and agreements. Job Requirements: Master’s / PhD degree in Engineering or Sciences or a related field. At least 10 years’ experience with a strong research track record in fields of relevance to ERI@N (Artificial Intelligence as applied to power grids, renewables & integration, energy storage systems, energy management or other energy related applications) would be essential. Familiarity with both academic and industrial research as well as the funding landscape enabling these research programmes is required. Good written and oral communication skills and the ability to communicate with a wide range of individual and professional groups including senior level management in both industry as well as government agencies is required. Demonstrated leadership in RD&D in energy research as P.I of successful completed multi-million projects/programs; strong publications, or intellectual property track record is essential. Able to work in and lead interdisciplinary teams with a wide variety of competences and a high level of diversity. We regret to inform that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
