Job Purpose:

  • To manage the berthing plan by maintaining vessel schedules shared by vessel operators and aligning with required resources and manpower for the next 24 hours.
Key Accountabilities:
  • Obtain vessel schedule from shipping line a minimum of 10 days prior to arrival and create vessel visits for upcoming vessels based on the information received.
  • Verify agreed window timeframe for the specific service and communicate with vessel operators on the best suitable timeframe to maintain the vessel in order to get berth on arrival.
  • Reserve the berth for vessels arriving on time according to the agreed window.
  • Maintain the vessel berthing on a first in, first serve basis for all out of window vessels (mainliners and feeders).
  • Update vessel information in the Berth Planning Application (BPA) and check if the advised vessel can fit with other vessels scheduled for the same timeframe, reverting back to the vessel operator if required to speed up or slow down the vessel.
  • Ensure that the vessel structure is available in the Terminal Operating System (TOS) and approach the vessel operator to get vessel particulars if the vessel is arriving for the first time.
  • Schedule crane and resource plan 24 hours in advance and distribute for resource booking with confirmation from the Shift Manager.
  • Ensure that manpower booking has been made using BPA and published on time.
  • Communicate with the marine tower on a timely basis with updates on berthing and sailing sequence/priorities.
  • Monitor all timeframes for vessel arrival, berthing, commencing operation, completion, and sailing to ensure accuracy in TOS updates.
  • Perform a vital role in communication as a focal point for marine operations and shipping lines.
  • Monitor weather situations and circulate weather forecasts on a daily basis.
  • Communicate with Shift Managers if an increase in wind speed is noticed through anemometers.
  • Communicate with the Engineering department and align PM/CM/EM requirements without impacting scheduled vessels.
  • Finalize the berthing plan and circulate it with internal and external customers on a daily basis.
  • Capture/update berthing and sailing-related information in the FASAH application.
  • Comply with the guidelines from the direct manager and ensure implementation.
  • Be responsible for safety and discipline in the work area.
  • Ensure compliance with Fatal Risk Standards, Safe Work Practices, and HSE policy.
Skills: Qualification, Experience, and Skill:
  • Experience in container terminal operations: 3 - 5 years
  • Understanding of vessel characteristics/dimensions and factors impacting vessel stability.
  • Work experience in container terminal operating systems.
  • Education: Diploma/Graduate.
  • Excellent computer operating skills.
