The Director, Business Development will expand LTD Division business in assigned territory as part of the broader Business Development team, through proactively managing the sales process, following up on leads, filling the pipeline to meet the yearly revenue targets for the region whilst demonstrating WuXi AppTec’s core values and complying with Company Policies. In addition to leading and managing a team to achieve Division targets, provide exceptional customer service and collaborate with other BD teams, this position will also require direct sales responsibility for a number of customer accounts. Please note the location of this job is work from home in (ideally) Germany. Overnight travel requirement is approximately 25 - 50%. • Develop and lead an engaged and high performing team, and implement process, methodology and infrastructure that delivers repeatable success. • Develop, align and execute an annual business plan that delivers the targeted revenue goals. • Establish professional rapport with internal functional leaders as well as market leading customers to remain forward facing in providing feedback on innovative internal processes and market demands. Customer engagements should be regular for the purpose of informing the organization of strategic and tactical performance. • Create new opportunities and develop new relationships to expand and grow our customer base in assigned region. • Qualify leads and present opportunity(ies) to manager. • Facilitate business meeting with WuXi AppTec with proper agenda, attendees, focus on opportunity and follow-up, meeting summary and action items. • Project professional image of WuXi as solutions provider with clearly articulated messages. • Support proposal negotiation to close contract. • Point of contact for WuXi LTD and customer; ensure communication channels; pro-actively identify areas of growth opportunity; ensure stable relationship with customers and potential customers. • Identify issues which could jeopardize partnership; pose solutions. • Maintain excellent relationships with internal business partners at WuXi. • Effectively and professionally communicates with both internal and external stakeholders. • Facilitates and supports teamwork to achieve common goals across WuXi LTD. • Overnight travel requirement approximately 25 - 50%. • Other duties as assigned. • Leads and develops team. • Achieves assigned sales quota. • Achieves assigned supplier and customer onboarding goals. • Achieves new account acquisition targets. • Completes required training and development objectives within the assigned time frame. • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Life Science fields; MBA, M.S. or PhD from Life Sciences field a plus with 5+ years of experience in leading a team and at least 5 years of business development experience preferred. • Experience leading a team of remote workers. • International business or cross-cultural experience, ability to work with international teams. • Experience acquiring and developing key accounts and driving top line in CRO, Pharma, Biotech services revenue growth, through collaboration or independent efforts in a territory. • Prior track record of achievement in positions with significant accountability. • Candidates must have a valid driver’s license and passport. • Demonstrated success at managing multiple opportunities and projects simultaneously. Technical Skills / Knowledge: • Demonstrates expertise in integrated service offerings of the Laboratory Testing Division at Wuxi AppTec • Demonstrates expertise in market-specific environments, understanding of market dynamics and market specific trends, regulatory frameworks and legal boundaries, competitive landscapes, influential medical societies, etc. • Demonstrated ability to couple business insight, and ability to translate business opportunity and business growth. • Ability to represent the company and its business interests at the highest levels: with key CRO, Pharma & Biotech stakeholders and decision makers, key opinion leaders. • Demonstrated abilities in the area of listening, negotiations, teamwork and persuasiveness. • Coordinates with other BDs or scientific counterparts to provide appropriate solutions to clients. • Track record for handling difficult situations and posing solutions that lead to turnaround or success. • Ability to accomplish the described duties with the use of appropriate computer equipment and software (especially Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and CRM tool). Independence/ Accountability: • Demonstrates the ability to a self-starter. • Functions in a self-motivated and highly flexible manner. • Must be organized and detailed-oriented. • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and to exhibit effective interpersonal skills. • Ability to develop and implement sales strategies and tactics to achieve defined goals. Problem Solving: • Possesses proven experience in creating or capitalizing on opportunities leading to successful outcomes, ideally with Business Development relevance. • Comfortable in high-complexity sales situations and willing to take on customer’s challenges and maximally leverage company’s offerings to address customer’s needs. • Comfortable in technically oriented sales and strive to provide the best value to customers. Communication Skills: • Very strong interpersonal and presentation skills. • Strong analytical ability, comfort with science and numbers. • Demonstrated ability to negotiate and influence at all levels of an organization. • Strong written communication skills.
