Job Description:

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in actively:
  1. Building and managing a business.
  2. Growing the existing business.
  3. Diversifying the client portfolio across the current geographies (Zambia, SA, DRC, Botswana, Tanzania).
  4. Taking full responsibility/ownership of the P&L for the business.
Furthermore, an extensive knowledge of the gasoil and gasoline market, strong analytical skills and a keen interest in managing clients is essential. Managing the business will include:
  1. Identifying market opportunities across the geographies.
  2. Ensuring the team executes trades at competitive prices to maximize profits and retain customers.
A minimum of 10 years experience is required in actively managing and growing a business with a skilled team and delivering P&L for the business. A strong understanding of the gasoil and gasoline market across East and Sub Saharan Africa is necessary, including but not limited to:
  • Supply chains
  • Pricing mechanisms
  • Cross border arbitrage opportunities
Moreover, identifying and pre-empting S&D disruptions across the ports is crucial.

Communication:

Excellent communication and negotiation skills are required, with the ability to build and maintain professional relationships. The candidate will be responsible for managing the entire team and P&L delivery, ensuring commercial managers achieve budgets and contribute to overall P&L delivery for the business.

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Define the overall trading strategy of the business across the geographies – opportunities to maximize margins by taking advantage of cross border arbitrage opportunities.
  2. Understand the potential market risk and operational risks, managing and navigating the business through these risks across the continent as they arise.
  3. Use market intelligence to pre-empt risks and leverage it to the company’s advantage.
  4. Explore opportunities along the value chain to enhance margins.
  5. Diversify the client base across the jurisdictions and across multiple industries.
Full responsibility of P&L includes:
  • Delivery of P&L.
  • Regularly tracking P&L vs. budget.
  • Managing costs and ensuring commercial heads deliver individual P&L against the budget.
  • Ensuring commercial heads are compliant with business processes.
Finally, oversee the trade execution for commercial heads and ensure deals are:
  • Delivering good margins.
  • Accountable end-to-end.
  • Closed within stipulated time frames, while adhering to risk mandates.
