We are currently looking for a Geriatrician to join us at Counties Manukau Health where our innovation and commitment to research puts us at the forefront of delivering the best healthcare services in the region. You will be working in a vibrant and dynamic department made up of committed health professionals who are completely engaged in the process of delivering quality care to elderly from a multicultural diverse population group. Our department has a unique Orthogeriatric team with bone density services as part of the service, providing the opportunity for learning osteoporosis management and bone density measurement related skills. We also have a very comprehensive community geriatrics team and memory team, with the possibility of doing clinics and providing leave cover. The inpatient teams are responsible for care of patients admitted for assessment, treatment and rehabilitation/acute care of elderly (ACE), which involves working with & leading a multidisciplinary team. The geriatrician leading the team is responsible for managing junior medical staff, conducting a bi-weekly ward round, and being involved in multi-disciplinary meetings, family meetings, and certain community-based work. It is essential that the geriatrician has experience working with elderly patients having multiple comorbidities. There are also duties involving ward referral and providing geriatrician support to ward for mental health services to older people. As an ideal candidate, you will be vocationally registered with the New Zealand Medical Council or be eligible for registration in this scope.
