Job Summary The Consultant is responsible for providing care for patients (inpatient and outpatient) while maintaining a high level of professional performance in accordance with:

  • Professional medical ethics and JCIA/CBAHI standards.
  • Hospital medical by-laws.
  • Laws of the Ministry of Health in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and any other applicable regulations according to the departmental quality plan.
Providing effective leadership of the department while maintaining an appropriate quality plan using measurable performance improvement standards in the field of gynecology and obstetrics. Major Duties and Responsibilities
  • Ensures through actions, either directly or indirectly, that superior quality of medical treatment, compassion, and understanding is given to every patient served at the National Hospital.
  • Provides patient care within the parameters of professional competence as reflected in the scope of clinical privileges for both in-patients and out-patients.
  • Practices within the framework of clinically relevant and scientifically valid standards, guidelines, and criteria.
  • Conducts daily ward rounds independently and/or as a team to formulate a multi-disciplinary treatment plan.
  • Performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures on patients within the range of the specialty.
  • Assesses and refers appropriate patients under medical care to other medical facilities and accepts referrals of patients with medical problems in the specialty field.
  • Participates in the on-call rota of the department for patient care and admission.
  • Responds to emergencies to offer advice and actively participates with problems related to the specialty.
  • Observes and upholds the patient’s rights of security, confidentiality, and privacy.
  • Maintains appropriate records of all patients with accurate, timely, and legible completion of medical records.
  • Holds a leadership role in the organization performance.
  • Supervises the duties of assigned junior staff.
  • Provides leadership for performance-improvement functions in the measurement, assessment, and improvement of both clinical and non-clinical processes as part of the Departmental Quality Plan.
  • Actively participates in Continued Medical Education (CME) through educational hospital activities (morning report meetings, grand rounds, clinical tutorials, seminars, journal club, radiology, or clinico-pathological conferences) as well as National and International meetings, conferences, and symposia.
  • Actively participates in training programs related to the field and organization within the hospital for the training of junior medical staff and in-service training for nursing staff and technicians.
  • Continuously updates knowledge in the medical field and upgrades skill level in the profession.
  • Participates in committee meetings assigned (Quality Improvement, Infection Control, etc.).
  • Educates patients/families as per their needs and implements their role in the patient/family education process, including documentation in the patient medical record.
  • Involves patients/families in the plan of care and respects their goals and choices regarding patient care.
  • Provides health promotion and health teaching through methods appropriate to a patient’s developmental level, learning needs, readiness and ability to learn, language preference, culture, and situations.
  • Allocates time necessary to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient education provided to patients/families with appropriate documentation.
  • Carries out any other assignments directed by Hospital Administration and/or the department head within the realm of knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Qualifications: Minimum of:
  • Graduation from an accredited medical school, completion of required training in specialty and/or subspecialty, with Saudi/Arab or American Board certificate, membership and/or fellowship status in the United States and/or Canada or MRCOG or their equivalent.
Special Competencies & Skills:
  • Fluent in verbal and written English.
  • Exhibits professionalism and excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Maintains high standards of medical ethics and a sense of responsibility as judged by supervisors and colleagues.
  • Knowledgeable of the Medical by-laws.
