Job details

  • 1. Provide group counseling and individual sessions to help students on campus.
  • 2. Coach students to become more effective in areas such as interpersonal processes, communication skills, decision-making concerning personal and educational/career matters, and the establishment of personal values.
  • 3. Develop and encourage realistic self-appraisal, intellectual development, values clarification, mental wellness, appreciation of cultural and aesthetic differences, and independence to the student body at GUST.
  • 4. Promote healthy student living on campus by coordinating and implementing related programs.
  • 5. Assist students in overcoming personal and educational problems or skills deficiencies.
  • 6. Promote student confidentiality and trust awareness on campus.
  • 7. Work collaboratively with faculty and staff to identify environmental conditions that may negatively influence student success while proposing and implementing interventions that may neutralize such conditions and/or improve the environment.
  • 8. Develop and implement a community-based referral program under the supervision of the OSC manager and the VP of Academic Services.
  • 9. Initiate and maintain confidential individual student files as appropriate.
  • 10. Serve as liaison between students and faculty in identifying and addressing concerns.
  • 11. Provide crisis intervention and emergency support.
  • 12. Plan, direct, and implement health fairs at GUST.
  • 13. Conduct healthy student living workshops.
  • 14. Assist in other related OSC services as instructed by the OSC manager.

Strategic Planning

  • 15. Support in the development of a long-term structural plan for the area of Counseling which coincides with the vision and mission of The OSC and The Gulf University for Science and Technology – GUST.
  • 16. Follow and update the manual set by the OSC manager.

Budget

  • 17. Contribute expenditure advice to the yearly development of the budget for the area of Counseling which reflects upon the overall needs of the OSC, overseen by the OSC manager.

Committees

  • 18. Serve on university committees for student enhancement and development appointed to the Junior Counselor by the Manager of OSC, and the VP of Academic Services.

Experience

  • 1-2 years' experience in the field of higher education and experience working with college students addressing personal problems, career development choices, interpersonal relationships, family and social issues.
