Role Title: Scrum Master Advisor Position Summary: We are looking for an innovative and experienced Scrum Master to join our IM D&A team. Scrum Masters primary focus is on helping to create an environment where the Analytics/ engineering/technology teams can deliver high quality, valuable analytics enabled software with “one team” approach, and not have to worry about the operations aspect of a project. While Scrum Masters typically focus on upholding the values of Scrum, facilitating meetings and discussions, and removing blockers, the SM does all this, while also focusing on a teams’ delivery. SMs set out to keep them focused on writing software by helping to handle ancillary technical tasks beyond coding. This can involve anything from onboarding applications and various tools to taking the lead on application architecture review processes, preparing various documentation and focusing on operational tasks for project delivery. Serves as the “servant leader” of the Scrum team by removing impediments and helping the team remain successful and on schedule. Must have a sufficient understanding of technology to enable them to lead team members and help them overcome their development roadblocks; they must also understand business strategy and objectives and be able to ensure that development work is prioritized by business value and results align with objectives. The incumbent provides expert content/professional leadership on complex assignments/projects. Exercises considerable creativity, foresight, and judgment in conceiving, planning, and delivering initiatives. Uses deep professional knowledge and acumen to advise functional leaders. Focuses on providing thought leadership but works on broader projects, which require understanding of wider business. Recognized internally as a subject matter expert on Scrum. Job Description & Responsibilities:
- Doing everything possible to ensure delighting customers.
- Cross collaborates with members of the team from various functions e.g., data scientist, data analyst, data governance, technology, engineering, Quality Analysts, product owners etc. and bring them together as “One Team” to drive outcomes.
- Guiding the team and organization on how to use Agile/Scrum practices and values to delight customers.
- Guiding the team on how to get the most out of self-organization.
- Guiding the team on self-organizing to fill in the intentional gaps left in the Agile/Scrum frameworks.
- Assessing the Scrum Maturity of the team and organization and coaching the team to higher levels of maturity, at a pace that is sustainable and comfortable for the team and organization.
- Removing impediments or guiding the team to remove impediments by finding the right personnel to remove the impediment.
- Building a trusting and safe environment where problems can be raised without fear of blame, retribution, or being judged, with an emphasis of healing and problem solving.
- Facilitating getting the work done without coercion, assigning, or dictating the work.
- Facilitating discussion, decision making, and conflict resolution.
- Assisting with internal and external communication, improving transparency, and radiating information.
- Supporting and educating the Product Owner, especially with respect to grooming and maintaining the product backlog.
- Providing all support to the team using a servant leadership style whenever possible, and leading by example.
- 7 to 10 Years of experience
- Experience in a Scrum Master role for at least two years in a software development team that was diligently applying Scrum principles, practices and theory.
- Experience / working knowledge of SAFe practices.
- Experience in working with Data & Analytics Team is a plus
- CSM (Certified Scrum Master)
- SSM (Certified SAFe Scrum Master)
- Second level Scrum Master Certification (CSP, PSM II)
- Agile techniques: User Stories, Agile Games.
- Knowledge of other agile approaches: XP, Kanban, Crystal, FDD, etc.
- Applicable knowledge of the technologies used by the team.
- Experience applying a wide variety of well documented patterns and techniques for filling in the intentional gaps left in the Scrum approach (example: numerous Burndown techniques, numerous Retrospective formats, handling bugs, etc.).
- Previous experience as a team lead.
- Excellent communication and mentoring skills
