Job Description

Key Role: Providing a consulting engineering service for the design, implementation, and close-out of commercial refrigeration installations. This role comprises a holistic refrigeration consulting spectrum from inception, detail design, documentation and procurement, construction, site monitoring, and project closeout. The candidate should illustrate a track record of client relations and leadership in refrigeration projects. It is furthermore necessary for the incumbent to have a working knowledge of technological design tools for efficient and quality design outputs. This role will comprise predominantly refrigeration installations but may include HVAC projects. Key Responsibilities:
  • Proficient in heat load calculations
  • Thorough understanding of South African National Standards (SANS – including 10147 & SANS 347), understanding of British Standards, ASHRAE, etc. will be advantageous
  • Design based on client requirements and specifications
  • Proficient in various modeling software and a working knowledge of BIM is essential (AutoCAD, Revit, BIM360, etc.)
  • Proficient in all project stages from inception through to close-out and competent in constructing and compiling tender documentation and management of that process.
  • Formulation of Bills of Quantities (BOQ’s)
  • Specialist equipment specifications understanding and approvals
  • Quality control (QA/QC)
  • Site supervision and construction monitoring
  • Troubleshooting existing installations
  • Cost control (related to HVAC & R only)
  • Project scoping and scope monitoring
  • Contractor and contract management (mechanical Refrigeration and HVAC discipline)

Key Competencies and Generic Skills:
  • Experience in various Autodesk products (AutoCAD, Revit, BIM360 suite)
  • Must be self-motivated
  • Team player
  • Excellent communicator and good discussion and problem resolution skills
  • A self-starter who can run with and manage his own projects with the guidance of a senior engineer
  • Must be responsible and have a high level of self-sufficiency and be able to apply common sense
  • Must have a questioning and inquisitive mind
  • Code B driver’s license (preferably own car)
  • Willing and able to travel abroad

Qualifications

Qualifications And Experience Required
  • Must have a B Eng / BSc / B Tech in Mechanical Engineering or have the relevant work experience to be deemed a competent person through ECSA
  • Professional registration with ECSA would be beneficial
  • Must be registered as a Category “C” practitioner with SARACCA
  • We would consider candidates who have been professionally registered, who have gone through the recognition of prior learning process
  • Must have minimum 3 - 5 years working experience as a consulting engineer [ideally in commercial refrigeration]
  • Must have experience related to commercial refrigeration design and commissioning; however, HVAC Mechanical experience will be advantageous
  • Suitable candidate must be located in Cape Town or willing to relocate to Cape Town
