About the role We are looking for a Surgical Transcription Administrator to support the General Surgery Services based at Dunedin Hospital. This role will provide high quality transcription and administrative support to the General Surgery Services, contributing to efficient and effective service delivery. It relies heavily on technology; therefore, you must be confident around computer systems with the ability to type accurately with high attention to detail. You must also be conscious of working with the utmost discretion as you'll be privy to patient information. About the team, service and location Health New Zealand Te Whatu Ora - Southern has the largest geographical coverage of all the New Zealand regions, providing services to 350,000 people in diverse communities. We take pride in all the services we provide, and our aim is to improve, promote and protect the health of our region. About you We are looking for a team player with excellent communication skills who will be able to transcribe voice recorded medical reports that have been dictated by healthcare professionals and disseminate transcribed clinical documentation. Your background will be varied in administration positions, and you will be able to contribute to the overall effectiveness of the team. To succeed in this role, you will need to have the following:
  • Demonstrated ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively with other professionals
  • At least two years' administration and customer service experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Touch typist skills with a typing speed above 65 words per minute
  • A flexible approach with the ability to successfully prioritise your workload
  • Accuracy and attention to detail are essential
  • Excellent computer skills: proven experience in use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook with the ability to learn other job specific programmes.
  • Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth
  • Experience in projects/initiatives which give effect to Te Tiriti principals and frameworks, and the application of Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings
