Department Information The Cardiac Cath Lab provides a vital service to all people of Saudi Arabia and is an integral part of the Heart Institute of our client hospital. The Cardiac Catheterization and Electrophysiology Laboratories provide diagnostic and therapeutic cardiovascular procedures for both adult and pediatric outpatients and inpatients. These services employ state of the art technologies and equipment to remain at the forefront ofthe diagnosis and treatment of heart disease. Cardiac catheterization procedures include hemodynamic and angiographic diagnostic studies, endomyocardial biopies, coronary and other angioplasties, valvuloplasties,placement of intravascular stents, embolization of vascular structures, occlusion of intracardiac defects, direct emergency revascularization of acute myocardialinfarction, and minor surgical procedures, primarily for vascular access or more major surgical intervention in conjunction with hybrid procedures. The Cardiac Electrophysiology (EP) services function within catheterization laboratories to provide diagnostic and therapeutic services for adult and pediatric inpatients and outpatients with cardiac arrhythmias. These potentially life-threatening conditions are treated through the use of cardioversion, selective tissue destruction(catheter ablation), and the implantation of pacemakers and automatic defibrillators. Hours of Operation The Cardiac Cath Lab provides a 24-hour service with on-call coverage outside of normal working hours. The on-call shift is assigned on a weekly basis and consists of two (2) SNIs and two (2) CVTs (or 1 CVT and 1 Radiographer). The Cardiac Cath Lab schedule for Nurses, Technologists, and Radiographers consists of 4 (four) 10-hour shifts - Saturday through Tuesday, and 1 (one) 9-hour shifton Wednesday, with Thursday and Friday being rest days. Work shifts are divided into: 0645-1615 hours (Desk) 0700-1630 hours (Early) 0730-1700 hours (Late/ Call) 0900-1830 hours (Late Recovery Room) The Cardiac Cath Lab is staffed with 5 (five) Patient Care Assistants fulfilling five (5) working shifts, consisting of four (4) 10-hour shifts - Saturday through Tuesday, and one (1) 9-hour shift on Wednesday, with Thursday and Friday off (rest days). Work shifts are divided into: Early 1 (E1): 0630-1600 Early 2 (E2): 0700-1630 Late (L): 0730-1700 Late 1 (L1): 0800-1730 Late 2 (L2): 0830-1800 The Cardiac Cath Lab Secretary and Cardiac Cath Lab Manager is required to work 0730-1700 Saturday through Tuesday, and 0730-1600 on Wednesdays. The Ambulatory Care Services Representative works a fixed shift of 0700-1630 Saturday through Tuesday, and 0700-1530 on Wednesdays.
