Clinical Nurse Specialist in Neuro Rehabilitation WTE 1.0 (Grade Code 2632) New development Consultant led Neuro-rehabilitation service (as part of the Neuro-rehabilitation Strategy and Managed Clinical Rehabilitation Network (MCRN), in The Royal Hospital Donnybrook (RHD). The RHD provides Sub-Acute, Stroke, Respite, Continuing Care, Neurological and General Rehabilitation services to adults, along with a busy Day Hospital under the direction of both rehabilitation and geriatric consultants. The RHD is an independent, voluntary, charitable organization. This RHD Neuro-rehabilitation service is upgrading and expanding to 18 inpatient rehabilitation beds with the exciting development of 10 new RHD positions (8.2 WTE), as part of the MCRN and the overall implementation of the Neuro-rehabilitation Strategy. Reporting Relationship The post holder is professionally accountable and will report to the Director of Nursing Purpose of the post Deliver care in line with the five core concepts of the role set out in the Framework for the Establishment of Clinical Nurse Specialist Posts, 4th edition, National Council for the Professional Development of Nursing and Midwifery (NCNM) 2008 Provide a specialist nursing service for this patient population Act as a resource and provide expert opinion, advice and guidance to nursing colleagues and other healthcare professionals Participate in the development of the strategic direction of nursing in conjunction with relevant agencies and stakeholders Develop local policies and care pathways within the specialist area The successful candidate will work as a key member of the multidisciplinary Neuro-Rehabilitation Team providing a person centred quality service to service users / clients and this specialist practice will encompass a major clinical focus which comprises assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of care given to the service user / clients and their families. The successful candidate will: provide advanced clinical knowledge and expertise in Neuro-Rehabilitation work in collaboration with the consultant , nursing team and interdisciplinary teams, in planning, developing, coordinating, and evaluating the service to meet the needs of the service users and the objectives of the organisation work as part of an interdisciplinary team supporting patients with varying neurological presentations and needs be responsible for the provision and delivery of a high-quality, evidence based, patient focused nursing service in the designated clinical area(s) and will carry out clinical, educational and administrative duties as required lead and manage service improvement and development,including policy development and implementation develops and implement clinical evidence-based practice, research, and audit Provides expert guidance/consultation to other nurses students and healthcare professionals via education, supervision and training to ensure they have the required skills and knowledge to deliver evidence based, safe and effective practice. Provide expert clinical leadership for Neuro-Rehabilitation both within the hospital and nationally Eligiblity Criteria Health A candidate for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service. Character Each candidate for and any person holding the office must be of good character. Statutory Registration, Qualifications and Experience Candidates for appointment must: Candidates must have at the latest date of application: Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc. Be a registered nurse in the General Register of Nurses and Midwives held by An Bord Altranais and Cnimhseachais na hireann (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland - NMBI) or be eligible to be so registered. And Be registered in the division(s) of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (Bord Altranais agus Cnimhseachais na hireann) Register for which the application is being made or be entitled to be so registered. Or In exceptional circumstances, which will be assessed on a case by case basis be registered in another Division of the register of Nurses and Midwives. And (iii) Have a minimum of 1 years post registration full time experience or an aggregate of 1 years full time experience in the division of the register in which the application is being made (taking into account (ii) (iii) if relevant) And (iv) Have a minimum of 1 years experience or an aggregate of 1 years full time experience in specialist area of Neuro-Rehabilitation including Neuro-Rehabilitation service provision. And (v) Have successfully completed a post registration programme of study, as certified by the education provider which verifies that the applicant has achieved a Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI), National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) major academic Level 9 or higher award that is relevant to the specialist area of care (equivalent to 60 ECTS or above), and in line with the requirements for specialist practice as set out by the National Council for Nursing and Midwifery 4th ed (2008). Alternatively provide written evidence from the Higher Education Institute that they have achieved the number of ECTS credits equivalent to a Level 9 or higher standard, relevant to the specialist area of care (equivalent to 60 ECTS or above), and in line with the requirements for specialist practice as set out by the National Council for Nursing and Midwifery 4th ed (2008). Neuro-Rehabilitation of care prior to application* (See **Note below). And (vi) Be required to demonstrate that they have continuing professional development (CPD) relevant to the specialist area. **Note 1: For Nurses who express an interest in CNS roles and who currently hold a level 8 educational qualification in the specialist area (equivalent to 60 ECTS or above), this qualification will be recognised up to September 2026. Have the ability to practice safely and effectively fulfilling his/her professional responsibility within his/her scope of practice 2. Annual registration (i) Practitioners must maintain live annual registration on the appropriate/relevant Division of the register of Nurses and Midwives maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland - NMBI (Bord Altranais agus Cnimhseachais na hireann) for the role. And (ii) Confirm annual registration with NMBI to the HSE by way of the annual Service user Safety Assurance Certificate (PSAC). 3. Health Candidates for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service Demonstrate a proven record of clinical excellence in the specialism of Neuro-Rehabilitation. And Professional Development and Practice Candidates must demonstrate evidence of continuing professional development relevant to the required area of specialism, in the form of post-graduate qualifications or relevant courses. And Candidates must demonstrate achievement in the areas of clinical audit, quality improvement initiatives, practice development, teaching and research.
