Overview

The Site Safety & Health Officer (SSHO) is responsible for the development and/or review of the Accident Prevention Plan (APP), activity hazard analyses, amendments to the accident prevention plan, on-site safety education, toolbox safety meetings, and overall safety compliance of the project. The SSHO manages, implements, and enforces the project Accident Prevention Plan, providing full-time on-site safety and occupational health management, surveillance, inspections, training, and safety enforcement. You will play a key role in ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal health and safety guidelines and procedures. You will ensure the safety of all employees, ensure all projects meet safety requirements, and provide advice and recommendations for safety improvements.

Responsibilities

  1. Comply with all occupational health and safety (OHS) guidelines and EM 385 1-1.
  2. Create and implement site-specific APP for construction per EM 385 1-1.
  3. Create and review Activity Hazard Analysis (AHA) and Work Plans.
  4. Ensure all safety submittals required are created, submitted, and approved by the GDA well in advance of scheduled preparatory meetings.
  5. Perform site inspections and observations throughout the entirety of the shift.
  6. Provide project safety orientations and briefs.
  7. Document Weekly Safety Meetings, Weekly Inspections, Deficiencies and Corrective Actions, Man Hours Worked, and any Incidents.
  8. Lead and document Near Miss and Incident Investigations / Root Cause Analysis.
  9. Develop and implement OHS training programs.
  10. Serve as Environmental Officer when required.
  11. Oversee disposal of substances according to environmental guidelines.
  12. Ensure statutes, regulations, and codes are clearly understood and met.
  13. Enforce all safety and environmental policies and procedures.
  14. Serve as the Drug Testing POC when required.

Qualifications

30-Hour OSHA Construction Industry, 40-Hour HAZWOPER, 1st Aid/CPR, 40-Hour EM 385.1.1 Site Safety & Health Officer Certificate. Preferred: Bachelor Degree 3-5 Years’ Safety related experience. #J-18808-Ljbffr
