As a backend engineer role, you'll play a key role in developing the backend architecture and services that will support our multiple frontend apps.Responsibilities:Strategy:You have a multi month / quarter vision (technical / business) and roadmap for your team and deliver on it. You use your strong understanding of company goals and strategy to influence the technical investments inside your teams. You drive engineering-wide initiatives and processes to improve customer experience, system performance, operational excellence, team productivity, team learning through post mortems, knowledge discovery / management, engineering documentation and engineering onboarding.
Execution:You operate with independence and have a consistent track record of executing against organizational goals. You own outcomes in the most ambiguous and challenging technical areas. You scope projects effectively and consistently hit the dates. You produce systems that serve as examples of excellence and are a role model for the engineering org. You lead by example and demonstrate high technical and operational excellence.
Collaboration:You actively seek out and drive resolution of conflicts, concerns and expectation mismatches between teams or individuals. You recognize the cost of a bad hire. Your interviewing input is insightful and actively sought out in hiring decisions. You may have hiring goals assigned to you.
Leadership:You build effective, independent, high output engineering teams and are responsible for the overall output of your team members. You mentor / coach to grow your team members (including L5 engineers) in their career. You may start to manage junior managers. You are a bar raiser across multiple technical venues pushing others to achieve higher standards. You demonstrate positive influence on other engineers outside of your immediate area.
Requirements:10+ years of professional software development experience.
5+ years of experience contributing to the design and architecture of new and existing services.
4+ years of experience mentoring software engineers.
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or other related technical field.
Extensive experience working with at least one modern object-oriented programming language such as Ruby on Rails, Python.
Solid understanding of software engineering best practices, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
Preferred Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or other related technical field.
Experience with Ruby on Rails, Python, Golang.
