We’re on the lookout for a talented 5-to-6-year PQE lawyer to join the Lion Legal team on a full-time permanent basis. This position will have a Trans-Tasman scope but be based in our Auckland CBD office, with flexible working arrangements available. Reporting to Lion’s General Counsel - New Zealand, but collaborating closely with the Lion Legal Team across both Australia & New Zealand, this role will play a pivotal part in delivering legal support to Lion’s Group procurement function. You'll also have the opportunity to lend your expertise to Lion’s Group General Counsel, offering valuable assistance on group-wide initiatives and addressing legal and strategic issues as they arise in both markets. The key accountability for the role includes:
- Lead on legal advice and contract support for Lion’s Group procurement & IT functions, across both Australia and New Zealand.
- Provide guidance and support on Group legal matters.
- Collaborate with Lion’s General Counsel New Zealand and/or Group General Counsel on high-value strategic projects and legal issues.
- Enhance internal capabilities by delivering updates and trainings to procurement and other Group/Supply Chain teams.
- Cultivate strong business partnerships and enhance connectivity with suppliers and partners through relationship-building efforts.
- Energy with a desire to challenge norms and drive change.
- Exceptional presentation and communication skills, both verbal and written, alongside strong interpersonal abilities.
- Proficient in drafting and negotiation, with outstanding organizational and time management capabilities.
- Solid commercial acumen and the confidence to make critical business decisions consistently.
- Holds formal tertiary legal qualifications, with a current practicing certificate, and demonstrates a strong understanding of commercial and contractual legal issues, as well as governance and compliance processes and risks. Additionally, brings 5-6 years of post-admission legal experience, ideally in commercial and corporate legal practice, with exposure to commercial contracting and/or supply chain-related areas being advantageous.
