Role Overview We are looking for an empathetic and knowledgeable Patient Care Navigator with a background in healthcare or related fields (psychology, philosophy, biology—doctors and nurses highly preferred) to support patients with end-stage cancer. The role requires someone who is not only kind and compassionate but also able to grasp and communicate medical advice, treatment options, and risks to patients in a clear, supportive manner. The Patient Care Navigator will act as a bridge between patients and their oncologists, helping patients better understand their options, remember crucial information, and feel confident in their decisions. Key Responsibilities Patient Support: Provide compassionate, one-on-one support to patients with end-stage cancer, listening to their concerns, answering questions, and offering emotional reassurance. Understanding Medical Advice: Grasp complex medical advice from tumor boards and oncologists, including treatment options and their associated pros and cons. Decision-Making Assistance: Help patients process and remember the information given by their oncologists, ensuring they clearly understand the risks and benefits of each treatment option. Patient Education: Communicate complex medical information in a way that is accessible and understandable, aiding patients in making informed decisions. Emotional Guidance: Offer a listening ear and provide the necessary empathy, patience, and care to support patients through a difficult journey. Team Collaboration: Work closely with oncologists, medical teams, and support staff to ensure patients are fully informed and supported throughout their treatment. Qualifications Educational Background: Degree in healthcare or a related field (psychology, philosophy, biology); medical degrees (e.g., RN, MD) are preferred. Experience: 2+ years of experience in a healthcare setting, patient advocacy, or similar role, with a preference for experience in oncology or palliative care. Key Skills: Empathy and patience in handling emotionally sensitive conversations. Strong communication skills to effectively relay complex medical information to patients. Ability to understand and translate oncology recommendations into clear guidance for patients. Attributes: Compassionate, with a genuine willingness to listen and offer comfort.
