Department of Premier & Cabinet – Melbourne VIC An exciting opportunity exists for a talented and highly motivated individual to join the Office of the General Counsel as Legal Adviser-Corporate Legal Team at the Department of Premier and Cabinet. The Office of the General Counsel provides strategic legal and policy advice to the Premier and Ministers supported by the Department of Premier and Cabinet and related agencies. As part of the Corporate Legal Team and reporting to the Manager, Corporate Legal Team, the Legal Adviser will provide strategic, risk-based legal advice to a number of DPC's portfolios and agencies in their corporate related matters. The Legal Adviser will deliver legal advice in an in-house environment on contractual, tendering, procurement and negotiation issues, employment matters, grants making and agreements, intellectual property and brand protection, property law and transactions at the centre of government. We are seeking a diligent Legal Adviser with strong technical, legal and conceptual skills, to join a dedicated team of high performing lawyers in the Corporate Legal Team. You must be admitted to practice as an Australian lawyer and be eligible to hold a Victorian practising certificate. About you As our ideal candidate you will have:
- Experience providing technically excellent and strategically focused legal advice, on commercial contracting and other corporate issues.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to lead and assist with the preparation of briefs and correspondence on significant legal and legal policy issues.
- Highly developed relationship management and negotiation skills and ability to establish and maintain relationships with a diverse stakeholder group.
- Proven ability to effectively manage competing priorities and deliver results based on incomplete or ambiguous information, under pressure.
- A strong commitment to delivering timely, clear, solution-focused legal advice and ability to identify and where appropriate, escalate risks.
