Medical Aid rate based on principal member only): To be confirmed Advert Closing Date: 17/11/2024 Job Purpose: The Student Development Officer is responsible for all operational aspects pertaining to the Local Student Representative Council (SRC) and student structures at a campus level. This role is pivotal in ensuring effective student governance and enhancing the student experience. Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
- A relevant three-year qualification, preferably in Social Science or Leadership development or a related field.
- At least three years of relevant experience in Student Governance, with a proven track record in developing programs for the SRC at universities. Candidates are encouraged to elaborate on specific initiatives or projects in their application that demonstrate their expertise and impact.
- Strong understanding of student needs and issues within the university context.
- Valid driver's license.
- Assist in student governance, administration, and database management, ensuring efficient operations and accurate record-keeping.
- Develop innovative programs and initiatives for the SRCs and student structures that promote engagement, leadership, and personal development.
- Provide ad hoc counseling to students, supporting them in managing their multiple roles and responsibilities effectively.
- Involvement in finance and procurement matters related to student projects, ensuring budget integrity and compliance with relevant policies.
- Foster internal and external liaison with clients and community partners, enhancing interdepartmental relations, and effectively communicating marketing efforts related to student governance initiatives.
- Manage and oversee the local campus-based SRC, focusing on their training and development to empower them as leaders within the campus community.
- Promote and support affiliated student structures, including political organizations, while managing the complexities of student governance effectively.
- Stay informed about national and institutional policies affecting student governance and advocate for student concerns within those frameworks.
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to oversee multiple initiatives simultaneously.
- Proficient in using technology and software relevant to student governance, database management, and communication.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to engage effectively with diverse groups.
- Strong problem-solving abilities, particularly in addressing student concerns and conflicts.
- Familiarity with the Higher Education Act, university statute, university strategy, student affairs strategy, SRC constitution, and legislative and regulatory framework governing student affairs.
