Salary: $220,000 - $250,000+ base
Reporting to the VP, Construction, this role will oversee the company portfolio of projects, maintaining positive relationships with the Development team throughout the project life cycle. Responsibilities include managing construction from pre-construction through to completion, providing guidance and support to team members to ensure scheduling, budget, safety, quality standards, and processes are followed. Effective problem solving, risk mitigation, trade management, relationship building, and overseeing overall project success are key responsibilities.
Director of Construction Duties & Responsibilities:
Promote, align with, and add value to the corporate strategic vision.
Develop and execute a strategic plan for the specific project portfolio that aligns with the Corporate Strategic plan.
Achievement of company's key performance indicators.
Act as an ambassador to company core values, leading by example.
Work closely with the development team to provide accurate budget, cost, and schedule updates/reports throughout the life of the projects within the portfolio.
Represent the company during client meetings and presentations.
Track project progress by overseeing the construction team's effective management of approved budget, schedule, and quality standards.
Work with your construction team to create and maintain the Master project schedule and milestones.
Oversee the entire project management process from approving project deliverables to initiating project reviews and ensure risks are continuously assessed and mitigated.
Ensure your construction team members identify opportunities to reduce overall costs and improve trade/supplier performance.
Recognize potential conflicts or issues and facilitate solutions (e.g., resource loading, priority clashes). Support your team with conflict resolution when needed.
Review major trade/supplier contracts before finalization.
Provide monthly updates to senior management, identifying, assessing, and informing of internal and external issues that affect the project.
Maintain relationships with other operational leaders and foster effective teamwork between leadership and staff.
Recruit, train, and manage the site management team to ensure business needs are met.
Provide mentorship and continue to grow the team.
Manage performance expectations and conduct performance evaluations of direct reports.
Support the development of team members and actively contribute to succession planning.
Ensure construction team prioritizes safety and reinforces the safety culture.
Be an advocate for safety at site, project, and portfolio levels, aligning with company's core values.
Ensure consistency of processes and achievement of company quality and brand standards.
Deploy company's operations system and continuous improvement strategy.
Ensure effective and consistent utilization of construction processes and technologies across the project.
Director of Construction Qualifications:
10+ years of senior project management experience in the construction industry.
College diploma or university degree in a related field; PMP certification is an asset.
Sound understanding of contractual and financial functions on projects.
Thorough knowledge of all aspects of construction (technology, equipment, methods), industry practices, estimating/budgeting, scheduling, and safety requirements.
Ability to lead and motivate construction teams.
Ability to resolve project disputes.
Excellent presentation skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Project.
Technologically savvy, able to learn new programs quickly.
Director of Construction Remuneration:
$220,000 - $250,000+ base pay.
