The MDA Space team of more than 3,000 space experts in Canada, the US and the UK has the knowledge and know-how to turn an audacious customer vision into an achievable mission - bringing to bear a one-of-a-kind mix of experience, engineering excellence and wide-eyed wonder that's been in our DNA since day one.We're on the hunt for a Junior Digital Signal Processing Engineer on our Satellite systems team.The Junior Digital Signal Processing (DSP) Engineer will report to a senior DSP Engineer and will be responsible for the documentation and design of algorithms for electronic communication units such as modulators, demodulators, encoders/decoders, reconfigurable and/or frequency hopping radios, regenerative space processors, beamforming for antenna arrays, etc.Responsibilities/Tasks:Modify, adapt or conceive algorithms based on DSP Requirements.Implement algorithms in tools such as Matlab or Simulink.Simulate/test algorithms by injecting appropriate stimulus.Write analysis scripts to evaluate the performance on simulation outputs.Adapt algorithms to be implementable by FPGA/ASIC engineers.Document the algorithms and test cases used for DSP requirements validation.Support lab investigations by defining test cases, stimuli, configurations as well as analysis scripts.Report progress and potential issues to their lead DSP Engineer.Minimal Required Qualifications:Electrical Engineering (EE) or equivalent Master degree (PhD is a plus).Zero (0) to two (2) years of experience designing simulation models for communication sub-systems.Knowledgeable about digital signal processing: FIR filters, IIR filters, multi-rate signal processing, correlation, FFT/IFFT, channelization methods.Digital communication theory: carrier synchronization, symbol timing synchronization, channel modelling for impairments including doppler shift, timing errors, etc., modulation/demodulation, error control encoding/decoding techniques, beamforming, etc.Some knowledge of VHDL/Verilog coding, synthesis, verification and related documentation.Some knowledge of fixed-point design.Proficient with Matlab/Simulink.Knowledge of Synplify, Modelsim, Xilinx Vivado and Actel Designer.Knowledge of Unix/Linux environment and script languages (Python, CShell, Tcl).Knowledge of AMD/Xilinx Versal AI Engines is a plus.Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team.Good verbal and written communication skills in English and ideally also in French.Knowledge of Version Control tools (SVN, GIT), Jira and Confluence.Comments/Special Considerations:Successful candidates must obtain and hold security clearance at the reliability status level, and pass security assessment for the Controlled Goods Program (CGP) and ITAR.Benefits statement:MDA provides competitive compensation and benefits packages for its employees at all locations.
