The Head of Employment Law, Asia will have responsibility for the following activities:- Reporting to the Legal Director, Global Employment Law and working with members of the wider global Employment Law Team (“ELT”) to support on global employment law projects, including re-organisations and other cross border projects, as well as the production and maintenance of template and precedent documents for use across Dyson’s business globally;
- Delivery of day-to-day employment law advice relating to Dyson’s employees across Asia (including South East Asia (Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines), China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Korea and ANZ);
- Developing the position of the employment law function within the Asia region acting as a strategic business partner and adviser, building engagement with the HR leadership team and business leaders;
- Providing expert, ethical and pragmatic advice on a range of complex employment law and employee relations matters;
- Assisting with the design, delivery and implementation of strategic projects and tech solutions aimed at streamlining and improving the way employment law services are provided to Dyson’s global business;
- Managing external counsel where appropriate, ensuring compliance with Dyson’s panel and cost management processes;
- Managing the Employment Law Team’s monthly reporting and help to use data to identify trends;
- Proactively identifying emerging legal risk areas and working with stakeholders across Dyson Legal and the business to implement innovative strategies to mitigate those risks;
- Collaborating with other members of Dyson Legal in the provision of legal services to the business, including working with colleagues globally on multi-jurisdictional projects;
- Facilitating the delivery of employment law training to HR and managers;
- The role would support the Legal Director, Global Employment Law with the management of the ELT and would have one direct report.
About you
The successful candidate will have a minimum of 12 years of employment law experience, prior in-house experience is strongly preferred. The ideal candidate will:- Have a sound understanding of all aspects of employment law and an ability to apply that knowledge pragmatically in a commercial environment;
- Have substantial experience in working on multi-jurisdictional matters across Asia;
- Have experience in managing external legal counsel;
- Have an interest in designing and implementing new ways of delivering legal services (including the use, where appropriate, of legal tech);
- Have good awareness of the role of the legal function in a global business;
- Be able to work independently in a fast-paced environment;
- Have the ability to deal with issues outside the candidate’s experience and to learn quickly;
- Have project management experience;
- Have the confidence and gravitas to challenge decisions and actions when required;
- Be a skilled communicator, and with a proven record of being able to quickly build effective and trusted relationships with stakeholders at all levels of an organisation up to and including C-suite.
