Job Title: Senior Engineer I
The Senior Engineer I is responsible for the activities related to an assigned organizational element, program, project, or task. Will normally plan, conduct, and supervise engineering design reviews and analysis assignments involving a major project or several smaller or less complex projects. These projects, by nature of their complexity and difficulty, require the fully competent application of conventional knowledge in a particular engineering or scientific field. Project work and assignments may be broad, requiring ingenuity and cross-functional coordination.What You Will Do:
- Applies intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of technical responsibility.
- Performs engineering reviews and analyses with no supervision.
- Reviews other engineers' work and provides appropriate guidance and training when necessary.
- Participates in the development and changes of Rules.
- Advises assigned staff in matters related to the application of Rules and Regulations.
- Provides day-to-day leadership of Engineering staff assigned.
- Assigns projects to Engineers and monitors the progress of all assigned projects.
- Ensures the delivery of high-quality service and maintenance of good customer relations.
- Devises new approaches to problems encountered and makes recommendations for changes in methods, procedures or design where necessary.
- Monitors the technical quality, content, consistency, continuity and timeliness of action of all assigned projects.
- Prepares written responses to clients in accordance with established procedures.
- Maintains liaison with other engineering specialists internally and externally.
- Monitors the performance, development potential and training needs of engineers assigned.
- Develops or assists in the development of qualification statements, proposals, bids and other presentation materials.
- Implements and maintains the ABS Health, Safety, Quality & Environmental Management Systems within assigned area of responsibility.
- Prepares accurate scope of work to clients.
What You Will Need:
Education and Experience:- Degree in Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering, Structural Engineering, or other related disciplines; an MS is preferred.
- Experienced Engineer from Industry (A or B).
- Professional or chartered engineer license.
- Ten to fifteen (10-15) years of related engineering experience in a shipyard, design/consulting office, shipping/oil company, or a classification society.
- Should have advanced practical industry related experience.
- Knowledge of related technical disciplines, stability, statutory, ship & Offshore structures in particular.
- Knowledge of applicable Rules and Regulations and impact of Rule applications and interpretations.
- Experience in SOLAS, MARPOL, MODU CODE, SPS Code, Loadline and Tonnage is highly desirable.
- Class Regulations and Class Notations, IMO Conventions, MSC/Circulars, MEPC Circulars, Important Flag state requirements, IACS UR/UIs.
- Demonstrated computer literacy in engineering software (preferably GHS, SACS, ANSYS, FEMAP etc).
- Knowledge of company business policies and procedures.
- The human relations skills necessary to maintain positive client contacts and provide leadership and motivation to subordinate staff and peers.
- Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
- Ability to identify, analyze and solve complex or unique engineering problems.
- Ability to undertake short- and long-term planning to provide for efficient and effective scheduling of work assignments.
- A working knowledge of the ABS Health, Safety, Quality & Environmental Management Systems (internal candidates only).
It Would Be Nice If You Had:
- Professional or chartered engineer license.
Reporting Relationships:
Reports to Engineering Manager or Principal Engineer but may report to others depending on specifics of assignment.Working Conditions:
Work will normally be performed in an air-conditioned office environment. Occasionally, incumbent will be required to visit manufacturing plants, remote field sites or go aboard marine vessels or structures. Work will be of a non-manual nature but the incumbent must be able to walk and climb among equipment and structures. Occasionally may have to lift between 25-50 pounds.
