Who You Are:

We are looking for an Intermediate Software Systems Architect who is skilled in both enterprise and software systems architecture. Located in Ottawa's west end, this is an on-site role due to the security requirements. The ideal candidate will have expertise in developing and maintaining Enterprise Architecture (EA) models and artefacts used for software systems development. The ideal candidate will have experience doing software system architecture work, preferably in a military or para-military environment. Canadian veterans from the Armed Forces would find this role interesting and challenging. The successful candidate must be willing to operate as an Independent Contractor. This is a long-term (5+ years) role.

The Ideal Candidate has demonstrated experience with:

Strong experience (3 to 5 years) with Tactical Command and Control Information Systems (TacC2IS);

Knowledge of Tactical Communications (TacComms);

Knowledge of Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR);

Management Information Systems (MIS) Development and Support;

Business Application Development and Support;

Database Management Systems (DBMS) Development and Support;

Real-Time Systems Development and Support;

Structured Message Formats;

Enterprise Architecture;

Business Analysis and Business Process Modeling;

Unified Modeling Language (UML);

Rational Unified Process (RUP) for Software Development;

Agile Methods for Software Development (in a deliberate and methodological approach, rather than ad-hoc);

Software Systems Engineering V-Model;

International and Industry Standards for Systems and Software Engineering, such as ISO/IEC 15288:2015, ISO/IEC 12207:2008 and Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI);

Software Engineering Competencies Management, including managing software skills across numerous areas such as requirements, design, construction, testing, sustainment, quality, configuration management and human-computer interaction;

Computer-Aided Software Engineering (CASE) and Integrated Development Environment (IDE) Technologies;

Requirements Management Standards, Methods and Technologies.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

The Intermediate Systems Architect must be capable of producing and managing software architectural designs and guidance, with contributions from across software engineering and support disciplines, to achieve comprehensive software system implementation within the constraints of cost, schedule, and performance while maintaining an acceptable level of risk. The SSA is also expected to provide technical leadership and advice regarding the selection, use and, if required, creation or modification, of processes, procedures, methods, and tools for the performance of software development and maintenance activities.

Mandatories / Minimum Qualifications Required:

Must have Level II Secret clearance;

University graduate degree in engineering or science;

3 to 5 years of experience;

Software Engineering Competencies Management, including managing software skills across numerous areas such as requirements, design, construction, testing, sustainment, quality, configuration management and human-computer interaction;

Requirements Management Standards, Methods and Technologies;

Test Management Standards, Methods and Technologies, including Automated Testing;

Developing and maintaining an Information Systems Reference Architecture used for software systems development and support;

Developing and maintaining Enterprise Architecture (EA) models and artefacts used for software systems development and support;

Creating and validating architectural representations of complex software-intensive systems used to predict and analyze performance, cost, schedule and risks, and to provide guidelines for system development, design, construction and management.
