Job Description
TeWhiwhingamahi | The Opportunity As an Energy Analyst, youâll be part of the high-performing, fast-paced trading group that Contact depends on to maximise the value of the business by buying and selling energy in NZâs energy markets. You will play a key role in developing Contactâs commercial operations strategy in the here and now, and in the future. Your focus will be less about building tools and more about collecting information from the tools. You will use the data to tell a story, advise strategies and communicate them to our management teams. This role sits in the Spot Markets team, but you will also support the wider trading group: Forward Markets, Dispatch Trading, Fuels, Transmission and Data Management. Itâs the perfect opportunity to work collaboratively and understand the Contact Energy business from the ground up. This role promises to provide variety with a particular focus across the following areas:- Ensure Contactâs understanding of the gas and electricity markets remains of a high standard.
- Develop tools, processes and systems that enhance the ability of the team to understand the market on a day-to-day basis.
- Complete gas market nominations and balancing processes.
- Provide advice to management teams.
Qualifications
You thrive in a fast-paced multi-faceted environment. Your energy sector knowledge, strong commercial acumen and communication skills ensure your voice is heard. You will have a knack for identifying opportunities within the highly complex energy market. And youâll be a pro at producing high quality analysis of energy market issues and formulating operational strategies. Your analytical mindset allows you to decipher complex information and convey it to a diverse audience (including those of us who are not technically minded). You understand how to deal with complexities and ambiguity and are confident working under pressure. Continuous learning is important here at Contact, so if youâre a fast learner and passionate about developing your own knowledge and expertise that will get us excited. A good knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite, in particular well-developed spreadsheet skills, is preferable.
