Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing.
  • 6 years of experience in the same field and 3 years in the same position as head nurse.
  • Master’s or diploma in Management is preferable.
  • Managerial skills are a must.
  • Dataflow is a must.
  • Saudi license holder is a plus.
  • Fluent in English.
Job description and responsibilities:
  • Develop and sustain own knowledge, clinical skills and professional awareness, and maintain a professional profile.
  • Provide documented evidence of performance and maintenance of skills consistent with position while serving as a leadership model for staff.
  • Treat colleagues, patients and visitors with dignity and respect at all times.
  • Acts as an advocate for patients and families.
  • Identify areas that will improve the quality of patient care and issues that will negatively impact on patient care outcomes, using the professional practice framework to identify and implement solutions.
  • Effectively manage allocated resources and forecast requirements for personnel, supplies and equipment.
  • Prepare annual budget and provide variance reports as required.
  • Apply problem-solving techniques and evidence-based practice to unit related issues and contribute to the development and evaluation of hospital wide policies and procedures.
  • Develop unit performance plans and prepare quarterly reports.
  • Maintain records of activity and outcomes.
  • Conduct unit meetings and record meeting minutes.
  • Plan and ensure implementation and evaluation of patient education programs.
  • Assist with organizational projects as requested including participating on nursing and/or interdisciplinary committees and task forces.
  • Lead collaborative multidisciplinary partnerships working towards the achievement of unit and department goals.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of Nursing Affairs objectives using a continuous improvement paradigm.
  • Work creatively to achieve objectives by embracing new ways of working and taking the lead in the Change Management process when appropriate.
  • Promote and maintain a culture within the clinical environment, which challenges and questions practice and promotes critical thinking amongst staff.
  • Create an environment that facilitates staff participation in the improvement of quality patient care in a transcultural environment. Record and evaluate activity against unit specific outcomes.
  • Ensure that nursing and support staff work cohesively together and that the objectives for the assigned area are accomplished.
  • Provide a welcoming work environment for new staff/nursing students and ensure appropriate preceptors are made available to assist with orientation.
  • Monitor and track individual progress and ensure ongoing individual performance appraisals are objectively completed for staff members against set criteria. Assist with action plans arising from these appraisals as necessary.
  • Provide clear feedback to team members in a manner that is conducive to maintaining and improving performance.
  • Counsel and/or discipline staff when appropriate.
  • Support the recruitment and retention of staff on unit.
