The core role of the Senior Graphic Design Team Leader is to lead a graphic design team pod, from concept to execution on all 360 projects and the design team’s day-to-day requirements. This role reports into and will work closely with the Creative Head: Design to ensure all graphic elements deliver engaging content for our brand. This role will manage the DTP, Junior, Midweight, Senior graphic designers, Team leader/s and collaborate with the traffic, copy and video teams, delivering engaging content that meets the expectations of our customers. - Diploma/Degree
- 5+ years in a Senior design related position
- 3-5 years in a Design management role
- Manage, lead and oversee the design pod team.
- Manage the liaison between pod heads and other creative HODs to ensure collaboration on project start-up.
- Lead the brainstorming, conceptualizing, development and execution of all 360 projects, adhoc projects and all campaign requirements.
- Present creative concepts to the broader business teams and management.
- Manage the day-to-day creative requirements within the design pods.
- Develop and oversee look and feel as well as quality of all work generated from the design pod.
- Liaison between designers and other business departments for all design job requests.
- Coordinate design work coming in with a job ticket system and allocate jobs accordingly (Traffic management).
- Contribute to, implement and ensure work processes are efficient and adhered to within the design pod.
- Submit daily reports to Creative Head: Design.
- Conduct team member Performance reviews.
- Identify pod team skills gap and suggest learning and development training.
- Conduct weekly design pod team meetings.
- Oversee design progress against schedule, priority, brief and deadlines.
- Ensure 360 campaign kick start meetings take place in order to conceptualize the campaign artwork required.
- Review, approve and present all creative work generated by the design pod team members.
- Ensure that the brand guide and brand standards are always adhered to.
- Have a strong understanding and opinion on illustration, typography, layout, powerful copy and what makes a good graphic design.
- Find proactive solutions for design team challenges.
- Ensure that the design files and stock library are maintained.
- Be an inspiration to the team while providing them with mentorship and career development.
- Ensure that design specs are aligned to the requirement of the job, and it is correctly print-ready.
- Keep up to date with design trends, training courses or webinars relevant to the department’s growth.
- Be able to work late and travel when required.
- Conducting interviews for new hires to the respective design pod.
- Developing Brand Guide (CI for various entities).
- Ad hoc duties as required.
