Overview: The Utilities Design Review Engineer is responsible for reviewing and approving utility systems designs (water, sewage, drainage, power, telecommunications, and gas) for large-scale infrastructure projects. This role ensures that all designs meet project specifications, local regulations, and international standards while coordinating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver cost-effective and efficient utility solutions. Responsibilities:
- Utilities Design Review and Approval:
- Review and approve utility designs, including water, sewage, drainage, power, telecommunications, and gas networks, ensuring compliance with project specifications, local regulations, and international standards.
- Ensure designs are practical, cost-effective, and meet both short-term construction needs and long-term operational efficiency.
- Provide detailed feedback to design consultants, ensuring utility systems are seamlessly integrated with other project components.
- Coordination with Other Disciplines:
- Collaborate with civil, structural, and mechanical engineering teams to ensure utility designs are fully aligned with the broader project plans.
- Facilitate integration between utility systems and other infrastructure components, ensuring smooth execution without design conflicts.
- Communicate regularly with contractors, consultants, and stakeholders to address and resolve design-related issues.
- Compliance and Quality Assurance:
- Ensure all utility designs adhere to local building codes, safety regulations, and international best practices.
- Conduct quality assurance reviews to identify potential issues and recommend corrective actions to maintain high standards.
- Oversee the implementation of design changes during construction to ensure ongoing compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Technical Problem Solving:
- Address and resolve technical challenges related to utility systems during the design and construction phases, providing timely and cost-effective solutions.
- Serve as the project’s technical expert on utilities, offering guidance and advice to the design and construction teams.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of utility design reviews, including approvals, design revisions, and quality control documentation.
- Prepare reports summarizing key decisions, review activities, and any necessary follow-up actions.
- Client and Stakeholder Communication:
- Act as the primary contact for utility design matters, providing updates to clients and addressing their concerns.
- Participate in stakeholder meetings and project reviews to discuss utility design progress and ensure alignment with project goals.
- Extensive experience in the design and review of utility systems, including water, sewage, drainage, and power, for large-scale infrastructure projects.
- Strong understanding of local utility regulations and international standards, with demonstrated expertise in utility integration within complex infrastructure projects.
- Proven ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and manage the coordination of utility designs across multiple project components.
- Proficiency in engineering and project management software tools, with a structured approach to managing design reviews.
- Education:
- BSc Holders: Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, or Utilities Engineering from a recognized Western-accredited university, with over 15 years of relevant experience.
- MSc Holders: Master’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, or Utilities Engineering from a recognized Western-accredited university, with over 12 years of relevant experience.
- Professional Membership:
- Chartered membership in a recognized institution (e.g., ICE, IMechE, CIBSE, or equivalent).
- Experience:
- Minimum of 12-15 years of experience in utility design review, with at least 5 years in a senior engineering role. Experience in the Middle East is .
- Skills:
- Fluency in English is mandatory; knowledge of Arabic is an advantage.
- Other Skills:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders and project teams.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities, ensuring utility designs meet both regulatory requirements and project-specific goals.
