About the role Jump on board our deep-water fleet, a league of 12 fishing vessels operating year-round from Great Barrier to the Ross Sea. Our deep-sea vessels can be at sea for up to 12 weeks at a time, catching, processing, and packaging seafood onboard, delivering the finest New Zealand seafood to tables worldwide. As the Factory Manager on the San Granit (67m long - largest in our fleet), you will have the opportunity to oversee the entire factory operation aboard one of our large factory trawlers. The vessel, located in Timaru, has a strong value-led culture, where people are the operation's most important asset. This role requires strong leadership and a commitment to maintaining compliance with food safety regulations while ensuring smooth factory operations. This is an Independent Contractor role on a 6 weeks on - 6 weeks off rotation. Paid for your trips off. Responsibilities:
- Manage the entire factory operation, ensuring compliance with food safety regulations and the quota management system.
- Make product cascading decisions based on company directives and run of catch.
- Lead the development and training of factory crew members.
- Oversee the health, safety, and well-being of the crew.
- Liaise with higher management on operational decisions and reports.
- Handle minor disciplinary issues within the crew.
- Manage and order consumables and packaging required for each voyage.
- Years of experience in factory vessel processing, preferably in a Factory Manager position.
- Proven ability to handle the physical and mental demands of life at sea.
- Comprehensive understanding of food safety regulations and Fisheries compliance.
- Strong working knowledge of the Risk Management Programme (RMP).
- Minimum of Level 2 or Level 3 seafood related qualifications/certifications.
- Experience in crew development, training, and health & safety protocols.
- Ability to handle documentation and compliance reporting for management and regulatory bodies.
