Responsibilities:• Collect samples to be tested, register, test, store, and dispose of them in accordance with applicable standard laboratory quality procedures.• Before each test, ensure each equipment is in good working order and calibrations are up to date; carry out routine maintenance as well as performance checks, when required.• Conduct the required tests and record the results accurately.• Produce test data on standard format worksheets in a precise and timely manner in accordance with standard procedure, and sign the worksheet at the completion of a test.• Perform test data calculations, plot results and prepare test reports to be checked by a Senior Technician or Laboratory Manager.• After a test, ensure equipment and tools are in good condition, and if not ensure they receive proper attention and rectification; keep superior informed and take appropriate actions. Perform general housekeeping duties in the laboratory.• Perform an independent check of test data worksheets completed by other technicians and sign the worksheet as checked.• Provide on-the-job supervision and advice to Assistant Technicians when instructed by Laboratory Manager.• Escalate unusual findings or difficulty in testing new or varied material or problems that cannot be solved at own level, to superiors well in time.• Attend training sessions on Standard Testing procedures, Quality and keep self-updated and familiar with the Quality Manual.• Carry out other laboratory/testing/reporting duties as instructed by the Laboratory Manager.Qualifications required:• BSc in Chemistry or Civil Engineering or Geology or related field.Skills / experience required to do the job:• At least 2-3 years of working in a similar laboratory, including at least 1 year of supervisory experience before FME.• Should have independently tested a variety of soils, rocks, aggregates, concrete and other building materials and be familiar with the usual tests, viz. Sieve analysis, Fineness Modulus, Proctor test (MDD & OMC), Liquid limit, Plastic limit, Plasticity Index, CBR, Field Density Test (Sand replacement method), Core cutting method; Compaction test by sand replacement method, Clay, silt & Dust content of sand; Elongation index, Flakiness index, Specific Gravity, Abrasion Value, Water absorption, Impact value, Crushing strength; Concrete sampling, slump test, Compressive strength, Extracting cores from concrete Structure, Rapid chloride permeability Test, Initial surface absorption Test, Water Permeability Test, Water absorption Test; Cement Consistency, Setting time (Initial & Final), Soundness, Fineness.• Must also be well acquainted with Industry Standards against which they are tested, e.g. ASTM, ACI, BS, DIN, etc. and have calibrated different equipment/tools over the years.About The Company:Fugro collects, processes and interprets data related to the earth's surface and the soils and rocks beneath and provides advice based on the results to clients in many sectors and also provides the people, equipment, expertise and technology that support the exploration, development, production and transportation of the world's natural resources.
