The Workplace Safety Officer (WSO) plays a crucial role in ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety regulations while maintaining a secure and healthy work environment. As a vital member of the organization’s risk management team, the WSO is responsible for developing and implementing effective safety protocols and procedures to minimize risks to employees, clients, customers, and visitors.

As a Workplace Safety Officer with our organization, you will foster a culture of safety, educate employees on safety practices and procedures, conduct safety risk assessments, and provide first aid and emergency response procedures. Key Responsibilities

Your day-to-day responsibilities as a Workplace Safety Officer will involve:

Conducting health and safety risk assessments of the workplace to identify hazards and potential risks.

Developing and implementing safety programs, policies, and procedures to mitigate risks.

Providing training and guidance on safety practices and procedures to employees.

Monitoring safety performance and implementing corrective action plans as needed.

Investigating accidents, identifying root causes, and reporting findings to management.

Maintaining accurate records and reports of safety-related information.

Staying informed about new developments and improvements in safety technologies, industry best practices, and related regulations.

Minimum Requirements

To be considered for this role, you should possess the following minimum requirements:

A bachelor’s degree in a related field such as Occupational Health, Safety, Environmental Studies, or a related discipline.

A valid certificate of competent practice in safety endorsed by the South African Safety and Health Organization (SOHSA) or Occupational Health and Safety Association of South Africa (OHSASA).

A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in an occupational health and safety field.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Sound knowledge of safety legislation and regulations.

Ability to work independently and as a team member.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Ability to plan, organize, and execute tasks efficiently.

Physical stamina to handle various jobs and tasks.

Valid driver‘s license with frequent travel to job sites possible.

Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.

Strong presentation and communication skills with minimal supervision.

Working Environment and Conditions

This full-time position offers the opportunity to work in a vibrant and dynamic environment within a team-oriented culture where safety is paramount. Expect to work a standard workweek of 40-45 hours per week. Occasional weekend shifts or overtime may be necessary to ensure business operations align with safety objectives. Travel to distant job sites or for mandatory training is expected.

This role is located at one of our major sites; however, we also cater to remote workers and virtual teams. Your role entails working closely with a cohesive team of safety professionals.
