Commercialization Engineering Services Director

Location: Newmarket, ON, CA (Hybrid)

Role:

Lead and inspire a team of managers and specialized employees in a key department.

Supervise department managers, set objectives, review performance, and approve compensation.

Engage regularly with executives and major customers, often in high-stakes situations.

Represent the organization at public events and speaking engagements.

Role Overview: Lead the R&D engineering team to innovate and deliver high-quality, reliable products on time and within budget.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Leadership: Shape the technical direction for R&D engineering.

Customer Focus: Ensure products meet customer goals for quality, reliability, and manufacturability.

Team Management: Lead a team of engineering services project managers, design consultants, and senior engineers from product concept to obsolescence.

Performance Management: Set priorities, track performance metrics, and drive process improvements.

Budget Oversight: Develop and manage departmental budgets and set strategic planning objectives.

Cost Control: Monitor costs and expenses to meet departmental goals.

Employee Development: Recommend compensation, coach for performance, and handle disciplinary actions.

Site Management: Participate in site management and provide technical input for business plans and proposals.

Customer Engagement: Collaborate with sales and marketing to understand and meet customer technical requirements.

Drive innovation, ensure product excellence, and contribute to strategic business objectives.

Key Skills and Competencies:

Engineering Expertise: Strong foundation in engineering design, development, testing, and production.

Business Acumen: Understand how decisions impact customer satisfaction, product quality, delivery, and profitability.

Manufacturing Knowledge: Broad understanding of electronic manufacturing, materials, and processes.

Analytical Skills: Excellent at analysis, negotiation, and problem resolution.

Typical Experience

11 to 14 years relevant experience

Typical Education

Bachelor's degree in related field, or consideration of an equivalent combination of education and experience. Advanced studies in Business/Operations/Technology are recommended.
