Job Summary:

Our client is seeking a highly experienced and innovative Director of Mechanical Engineering with 8+ years of experience to lead the mechanical engineering team. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in mechanical design, product development, and team leadership, with the ability to drive projects from concept through production. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and the ability to collaborate across departments to deliver high-quality engineering solutions that meet company objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Management:

Lead and mentor a team of mechanical engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Set team goals, provide regular feedback, and conduct performance evaluations to ensure team members are meeting professional and company expectations. Oversee resource allocation, project timelines, and budget management to ensure on-time and on-budget delivery of engineering projects.



Project Management:

Manage the entire product development lifecycle, from initial concept through detailed design, prototyping, testing, and production. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineering, software engineering, manufacturing, and marketing, to ensure seamless integration of mechanical components in products. Identify and mitigate risks throughout the design and development process, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.



Technical Expertise:

Provide technical guidance and expertise in the areas of mechanical design, materials selection, thermal management, and structural analysis. Lead design reviews and ensure that engineering solutions are robust, cost-effective, and meet all technical requirements. Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in mechanical engineering, materials science, and manufacturing technologies to drive innovation within the team.



Strategic Planning:

Work closely with senior management to define the mechanical engineering strategy that aligns with the company's long-term goals. Identify opportunities for process improvements, cost reductions, and product innovations that can enhance the company's competitive advantage. Develop and manage relationships with external vendors, partners, and industry experts to leverage external expertise and resources.



Compliance and Quality Assurance:

Ensure all mechanical designs comply with relevant industry standards, safety regulations, and environmental guidelines. Implement and maintain rigorous quality assurance processes to ensure the highest levels of product quality and reliability.

Requirements:

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.

Minimum of 8 years of experience in mechanical engineering, with at least 3 years in a leadership or managerial role.

Proven experience in leading mechanical engineering teams through the entire product development lifecycle.

Strong knowledge of mechanical design principles, materials science, thermal analysis, and manufacturing processes.

Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and other engineering tools.

Experience with project management methodologies and tools.

Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.

Experience in the (industry-specific) sector is a plus.

Knowledge of relevant industry standards and regulatory requirements.
