Reporting to and assisting the Assistant General Counsel (Shared Services), this role provides on the ground oversight, training and management of the contract managers in Singtel’s Shared Service Legal Team based out of KL, Malaysia to ensure that effective legal support is provided by the team to the various business units within the Singtel group of companies in Singapore, and across the Asia Pacific region. This role will also require the individual to provide strong legal support to allocated Business Units. Make an Impact by:
- Assist the Assistant General Counsel (Shared Services) in the overall oversight, training and management of Singtel’s Shared Services Legal Team.
- Providing on the ground oversight of the Shared Services Legal team for robust management of the team.
- Monitoring and reviewing matter trackers maintained by each member of the Shared Services Legal team, in collaboration with the relevant Assistant General Counsels based out of Singapore office.
- Provide feedback on performance of the Shared Services Legal team to the relevant Assistant General Counsels based out of Singapore office, and assist with the planning of career development and continuous improvement of the team.
- Organizing and providing relevant legal trainings to the Shared Services Legal team through in-house training or external training by law firms.
- Supporting allocated Business Units in Singapore and across the Asia Pacific region with timely quality legal work in a fast paced and dynamic working environment. Work includes independent contract review, contract drafting, governance compliance.
- Reviewing, drafting and negotiating a wide variety of contracts, including sales and procurement contracts, and IT contracts.
- Providing accurate and prompt legal advice to allocated Business Units acting always in a pro-active, commercial, and pragmatic manner.
- Managing time effectively and efficiently to cope with competing deadlines from different business stakeholders.
- Delegating day-to-day work to the relevant members in Shared Services Legal team who are assigned to the same allocated Business Units, overseeing their work and providing legal guidance to team members in the performance of their tasks.
- Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from a university in Singapore, UK or Australia university
- Called to the bar in Singapore, Malaysia, UK or Australia
- Min 10 years of post-graduate qualifying experience, critical to have 3-5 years of experience in a good law firm, and general commercial corporate experience.
- Excellent technical skills in drafting and vetting a wide variety of legal contracts.
- Reasonable knowledge of IT laws, privacy and competition law, intellectual property and litigation matters.
- A track record of steady career progression and demonstrating leadership qualities.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and able to interact and work across functions and levels.
- Excellent communication, writing, negotiation, and presentation skills.
- A team player and strong work ethic.
- Able to work independently and effectively under pressure/tight deadlines.
- Meticulous, quick to learn, detailed, ability to work with many parties in the Singtel Group.
- Curious, willing to put in effort into working and learning about our business.
- Willingness to travel occasionally to Singapore for work.
