Leading metal products manufacturer seeks Plant Engineer. Oversee maintenance and continuous plant improvements. Hands-on person. Non-Negotiables (We will check) Excellent Mechanical Aptitude. Exceptionally good with your hands. Has had hands-on maintenance experience on punches, fitting and turning machines, welding machines, cranes, motor vehicles (strong pref). More than 5 years. Government Certificate of Competency (Mechanical or Factories). Expert in Occupational Health and Safety. Practices and investigations. Innovative. Exposure to Industrial Engineering, TQM, Lean or equivalent. Has been involves in plant improvement projects from a conceptualisation and implementation perspective. Exposure to maintenance of old machines, custom machines and electro-mechanical machines. Leads as part of the team. Exceptional people skills. Reads people well. Manages own emotions well. What the person must be able to do: This role is in the South African metal products manufacturing industry. All duties would take place in this context. Oversee all plant planning, design and maintenance Take full operational accountability for installation and maintenance of: Mechanical Machines, Automated Machines, Tools, Functional EquipmentVehicle fleet maintenanceHeavy equipment such as boilers and compressorsElectrical equipment such as welders Take full accountability for Occupational Health and Safety Oversee utilities such as electricity, water, steam and effluent Understand how to design and repair custom equipment (Don't have to do, just understand) Understand heavy machinery Practical understanding of industrial engineering practices such as TQM, Lean, ISO or equivalent. Advantageous: Specific experience in the metal goods industry Introduce and monitor proactive maintenance schedules and practices Mentoring and staff skills upliftment People skills and interdepartmental harmonisation skills Manage a team of maintenance staff Key Job Deliverables (First 6-12 Months): Get to understand the plant in depth Analyse current status of operation and identify opportunities for optimisation Optimise proactive and reactive maintenance Audit safety practices and recommend improvements Background work experience 5+ years experience as a Plant Engineer or equivalent (i.e. Must have had overall accountability for a Plant) GCC (Mechanical or Factories) (Non Negotiable) Mechanical Engineering N6, Btech or BSc Proven track record in plant optimisation and proactive maintenance (we will check references) Strong interpersonal skills Type of Person Qualify In Action orientated Analytical thinker Innovator Improvement Driven Strong leadership skills - Leads as a member of the team Strong interpersonal skills Strong communication skills at all levels (From senior management to blue collar workers) Natural coach and mentor Strong project management and facilitation skills Success orientated Qualify Out Abrasive Emotionally cold Focuses on numbers and forgets about people Introverted - Not a people person Wants to be spoon fed Lethargic Confined to Analysis-Paralysis Personality Summary: Moderate to High Driver - Results Orientated Go-getter.
