Owned by the Government of Nunavut and operated as an arms-length territorial corporation, QEC is the sole provider of electricity and district heating in Nunavut. In comparison to other utilities in Canada, QEC faces unique challenges as it operates 25 stand-alone diesel power generation facilities and distribution systems located in each of the territory's communities.Manager, Corporate Communications (QEC-24-043)Reporting to the Director, Corporate Affairs, the Manager, Corporate Communications will lead the strategic development, implementation, and ongoing management of internal and external communications, and media relations for QEC. This role is responsible for the flow of information between the Corporation, the Board of Directors, QEC's management, and the public.The Manager of Corporate Communications provides QEC with an efficient coordination and liaison function for its public relations and internal and external communications. The position provides communications planning and media relations support and advice to all QEC directors, managers, and staff for all divisions and regions.Duties and Responsibilities:Participates as the Corporate Affairs department's liaison in the development of the department's communications guidelines, standards, and strategies to guide senior management in conducting communication activities at their level.Managing public relations activities including branding and positioning strategies to promote QEC as an innovative energy company.Leads and provides the Corporation with a full range of writing clear press releases, public service announcements, PowerPoint presentations, speeches, and other related material. The incumbent will also prepare, edit, and review all print, broadcast, and electronic communications to ensure that they are consistent.Responds to media inquiries and develops and maintains positive relationships with the media and outside stakeholders.Develops and implements departmental communications procedures to effectively coordinate the design and production of print, electronic, and other communications products.Develops short and long-term communications strategies and materials that align with QEC's corporate strategy and manage their execution.Creates tools, processes, work plans, and reporting mechanisms for tracking projects and measuring progress.Builds strong internal relationships across QEC; influences internal teams to promote the effective and efficient flow of information throughout the organization.Creates employee communications and social media strategies and programs to engage employees in QEC's strategic vision, values, and mission (ex. Quarterly Newsletter, internet/intranet improvements, etc.)Develops and maintains a centralized service for the translation of all department materials.Provides strategic communications advice to senior management, including ensuring company spokespeople are properly trained and prepared for engagement with media and stakeholders.Gathers information from departments and prepares the corporation's Annual report.Plans and coordinates special events for projects, milestones, and completions, and anniversaries, including writing speaking points for senior officials, elaborating on guest lists, issuing invitations, and arranging publicity of events where required.Represents and promotes the Corporation at events such as regional trade shows and fields questions from visitors.Required Qualifications Include:A university degree obtained from a recognized university in public relations, communications, public/business administration, political science, or a related field. Preference will be given to those with a post graduate degree.Minimum 3-5 years of direct progressive experience in the field of public relations, and/or Minimum of 3 years of Supervisory/Management experience.Assets:Public sector experience is an asset.Experience in a regulated environment is an asset.Experience in a utility environment is an asset.A combination of education and equivalent experience may be considered.We offer a competitive starting salary range of $108,947.64 to $128,221.86 and a northern living allowance of $16,008.00 per annum. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package, including a defined-benefit pension program. Accommodation is not guaranteed at this point and will be allocated when available.
