Our  Fiscal Reporting team is currently looking for a  Government Reporting Accountant to join the team full time on a permanent basis. As a Government Reporting Accountant at the Treasury you'll be part of a dynamic, highly skilled team that is responsible for providing financial accounting direction to the public sector. We are committed to keeping New Zealand's reputation as being a world leader in government fiscal reporting. In this role, you will be closely involved in preparing the financial statements and forecasts of the Government as well as providing accounting advice on a range of issues.  You will also have the opportunity to:
  • Be part of the production of the Government's monthly financial statements and fiscal forecasts
  • Learn and apply public sector financial management frameworks
  • Provide support and advice to Government reporting entities and teams within the Treasury on accounting, appropriation and consolidation issues
  • Communicate financial results in an effective manner to a range of stakeholders (e.g. Ministers)
  • Contribute towards the effectiveness of the team via collaboration
  • Manage key internal and external stakeholder relationships
The appointing remuneration range for this role is between $100,000 and $125,000.  This important work takes a special kind of person with a passion for making a difference and getting things done. The specific experience, skills, and qualities that will help you succeed in this role include:
  • A Chartered Accountant qualification with at least two years (post qualification) of financial accounting or auditing experience
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to represent the Treasury
  • A focus on continuous improvement and personal accountability
  • Self-starter with initiative who can think independently and drive outcomes
  • Exceptional relationship management skills and credibility to engage with and influence at all levels
  • Experience at consolidation accounting; Public sector experience would be helpful but is not essential
