This role involves collaboration across departments and with external contractors to ensure the continued success of the facilityâs aquatic exhibitsJob Responsibilities:Oversee the daily operation and maintenance of life support systems (LSS), ensuring the health and safety of marine life in compliance with environmental and safety regulations.Monitor and adjust water quality parameters (e.g., salinity, temperature, pH, oxygen) to meet exhibit needs and troubleshoot issues to maintain continuous system functionality.Lead and mentor the LSS team, developing maintenance schedules, ensuring adherence to safety protocols, and providing training in industry best practices.Provide technical input during the planning, design, and execution of new exhibits, ensuring feasibility and alignment with LSS capabilities.Supervise the installation, testing, and commissioning of life support systems for new and existing exhibits.Collaborate with animal care teams to meet species-specific needs through proper LSS operations, supporting animal health and welfare.Manage vendor and contractor relationships for procurement, repairs, and upgrades, ensuring high operational standards and cost-efficiency.Control the LSS budget, optimize costs, and maintain inventory of supplies and backup equipment to ensure seamless operations.Lead emergency response protocols for LSS, minimizing risk to marine life and infrastructure.Maintain accurate records of water quality, system performance, and maintenance activities to support proper animal care and regulatory compliance.Collaborate with other departments on setting goals, developing new exhibits, and leading large-scale projects and renovations.Oversee internship and volunteer programs related to life support, mentoring participants and enhancing team development.Stay informed on trends in life support technology, water quality management, and best practices, implementing improvements to optimize system performance.Policies, Systems, Processes, Procedures, Standards and ReportsFollow all relevant functional policies, processes, standard operating procedures, and instructions to ensure that work is carried out in a controlled and consistent manner. Assist in the preparation of accurate and timely functional MIS statements and reports to meet corporate and functional requirements, policies, and standards.Safety, Quality & Environment Apply safety, quality and environmental management policies, procedures, and controls to ensure employee safety, legislative compliance, delivery of high-quality products/service and a responsible environmental attitude.Continuous Improvement Contribute to the identification of opportunities for continuous improvement of departmentâs systems, processes and practices considering âinternational best practiceâ, improvement of business processes, cost reduction and productivity improvement.Job Requirements:Qualifications & Experience:Bachelorâs degree in Engineering, Marine Science, or a related field.5+ years of experience in life support system management in an aquarium, zoo, or similar environment.AALSO certification: Minimum Level 2 in Life Support Systems and Water Quality; Level 3 preferred for both.Experience leading technical teams and managing complex life support systems.Knowledge of regulatory requirements for life support systems in public aquariums or related facilities.Proven ability to manage budgets and optimize operational costs.Experience with troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining life support systems and equipment.Plumbing, construction, and exhibit renovation experience required.Competency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.PADI Divemaster or equivalent (Preferred).Skills:Strong leadership and team management abilities.Expertise in LSS operations, maintenance, and water quality management.Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to resolve technical issues quickly and effectively.Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.Effective communication skills for collaboration with internal teams and external contractors.Knowledge of sustainability practices and energy optimization in LSS operations.Excellent standard of written and spoken English.Job Context:This is a 'Front of House' and âBack of Houseâ position with direct guest contact and constant interaction with staff and contractors.
