Job Description Lead Pharmacist The Cherwell Hospital, BanburyFull Time - 37.5 Hours Job summary An opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and dynamic pharmacist to lead the clinical pharmacy and medicines optimisation service at The Cherwell Hospital. Main duties You will be working as the lead Pharmacist as part of the multi-disciplinary team to provide an excellent pharmaceutical service to a range of departments, including Pre-assessment clinics, Outpatient departments, the Ward and Theatres. Your time will predominantly be spent at The Cherwell Hospital - a 36-bed inpatient unit and day-case facility predominantly specialising in elective orthopaedic and ophthalmology surgery but also undertakes non-complex spinal, gynaecology, dermatology and cosmetic surgery. Blakelands Hospital is a state-of-the-art purpose-built day-case unit specialising in minor surgery and endoscopy services. You will available to support the established pharmacy technician there who leads on procurement at the site; your role will predominantly involve remote specialist pharmaceutical expertise, with occasional site visits once or twice fortnightly or as required. Job responsibilities
- To lead a team delivering a patient-centred clinical pharmacy and medicines optimisation service to The Cherwell Hospital and supporting Blakelands Hospital.
- To support the efficient procurement of medicines and respond to issues or fluctuations in the supply chain, with support from the corporate pharmacy team.
- To continuously improve and develop the pharmacy service through audit outcomes and quality improvement programmes.
- To contribute to the local governance agenda, including attending local Clinical Governance, Infection Prevention and Control and Medicines Advisory Committees.
- To support the Head of Clinical Services in their role as the Controlled Drug Accountable Officer for the hospitals.
- To provide education and training on medicines management to the multidisciplinary team to support the overall patient safety agenda.
- To ensure understanding, implementation and compliance with medicines legislation, organisational medicines related policies, standard operating procedures and guidelines.
- Improve patient safety through reporting and investigation of medication-related patient safety incidents, as well as to share learning from these incidents, following the Patient Safety Incident Review Framework.
- Opportunity to continue professional development, for example, completion of a non-medical prescribing program.
- Opportunity to utilise non-medical prescribing skills in the inpatient setting.
- Current registration as a Pharmacist with the GPhC (General Pharmaceutical Council)
- Postgraduate diploma in clinical pharmacy or equivalent experience (applicants with experience in community and Integrated Care Board sectors will be considered)
- Independent Prescriber qualification
- Management qualification
- Experience as a pharmacist in the hospital setting (although applicants with management experience in community, Integrated Care Board and other primary care sector roles will be considered)
- Experience of leading a team and service
- Familiarity with electronic stock control systems
- Audit and data analysis experience
