Each team member is a highly motivated individual with demonstrated design and analytical expertise in the efficient function of mission-critical facilities. At Amazon, we leverage unique opportunities presented to us by owning everything from the substation to the server and back to the cooling systems. We are diverse, upbeat, creative, team-oriented engineers and managers working daily to develop architectures and technology that drive future data center designs. Amazon Engineers are constantly challenged to quickly deliver the highest quality and most technically efficient data centers in the world. Our Data Center Mechanical Engineers:

  1. Understand key problems, propose and analyze multiple solutions to produce the most energy-efficient, cost-effective, and rapidly scalable mechanical designs achievable.
  2. Provide the vision and rationale for Amazon’s data center mechanical designs to leadership, while ensuring current systems meet performance and operational standards.
  3. Understand key aspects of status quo data center mechanical systems to identify improvement areas in next-generation designs.
  4. Have a strong understanding of business analysis and practices including Total Cost of Ownership and Return on Investment models.
  5. Work closely with hardware designers to optimize the interfaces between the IT equipment and the facility.
  6. Provide total project management and oversight of construction, including ownership of the project scope, timeline, and budget.
  7. Plan and forecast budgetary needs for the engineering group that support future projects and growth.
  8. Work independently and have periodic reviews with Principal Engineers and management.
  9. Manage total product & project quality including the creation, oversight, and execution of commissioning plans.
  10. Record and report key metrics to team members and management.
  11. Drive teams to supply root-cause analysis, quantify customer exposure, provide remediation, and ensure documentation of issues to prevent recurrence.
