Mana Mahi is delighted to partner with Tūhono in recruiting their new General Manager.At Tūhono, we uphold the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, dedicating ourselves to a vital kaupapa—the Māori Affiliation Service. This service champions the sovereignty and visibility of Māori data across Aotearoa. As we bid farewell to our retiring CE, we are on the lookout for a visionary leader to join our whānau and steer our mission forward.

You will be part of an organisation deeply committed to enhancing our understanding and application of te reo Māori, tikanga Māori, and mātauranga Māori, fostering a meaningful partnership with tangata whenua. 

You will benefit from a highly skilled board that is actively engaged in te ao Māori in their full-time vocations. They are passionate advocates and stewards of our kaupapa, working diligently to advance our goals.

Te tūranga / About the role

This fixed-term, part-time position offers 25 hours per week and is based in Hamilton, with the flexibility to work remotely. As our new leader, you will play a crucial role in engaging with our Authorised User Organisations and stakeholders to revitalise and deepen our relationships. Your responsibilities will include strategic planning, managing operations, and leading our small, dedicated team towards achieving our vision of robust, data-driven support for our iwi and Māori communities.

A key mandate of this role is to seek and secure funding for our ongoing work, with the potential for this position to become permanent based on the successful achievement of these objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and foster meaningful engagements with Māori communities and government entities.
  • Drive our strategic direction, focusing on sustainable relationships and technological advancement.
  • Oversee financial management, staff recruitment, and the daily operations of our organisation.
  • Host and coordinate regional wānanga, inviting dialogue and collaboration across our nine regions.

He kōrero mōu ake / About you

  • Proven experience in leadership within a not-for-profit or community-focused organisation.
  • Strong grounding in tikanga and Te Ao Māori
  • Skilled in managing IT infrastructure and understanding of Māori data sovereignty principles.
  • Exceptional relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage authentically and consult effectively.
