Hazardous Waste Specialist

Years of Experience: 2 to 5 Minimum Qualifications: High School or Equivalent, HAZWOPER: 40-Hr, 24-Hr, and 8-Hr Refresher; HAZCOM (GHS); Upper Respiratory Protection; Confined Space; Lock Out/Tag Out (LO/TO); Respiratory Fit Testing; SCBA Training; Blood Pathogen Training; Certification of Medical Waste Incinerator Operators (ASME QMO-1) or equivalent. Responsibilities:

1. Collect, store, and manage Hazardous Waste to include classes 2 – 9, as well as fuel, Lead, Lithium and other miscellaneous Hazardous Materials.
2. Post instructions, warnings, or other markings as necessary in all workspaces, including Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), wherever appropriate.
3. Maintain a safe workplace and ensure that safety is the highest priority in the workplace.
4. Support the Environmental Health & Safety and Quality Assurance teams by providing information and materials to ensure compliance with local, national, and Army regulations and complete supporting documentation.
5. Coordinate with COR for Hazardous Materials procurement, movement, and disposal.
6. Support the development of SOPs to maintain a hazard-free work environment.
7. Perform Environmental Sampling/Testing.
8. Handle Medical Waste, including coordinating the disposal and recycling with established installation resources IAW 29 CFR 1910.
9. Handle hazardous materials classified as Regulated Medical Waste (RMW) Groups 1-9.
10. Operate a Regulated Medical Waste incinerator and perform duties IAW MEDCOM Reg 40-35, MANAGEMENT OF REGULATED MEDICAL WASTE (RMW).
11. Use TB MED 593 for field waste management guidance.
