Te whiwhinga mahi - The Opportunity The National Public Health Service (NPHS) within Health New Zealand Te Whatu Ora, works towards Pae Ora (healthy futures) for all by engaging with the wider determinants that impact people's health, focusing on oranga / wellbeing, prevention, and population-level intervention. We are connected across boundaries to deliver public health services that are nationally planned, regionally delivered and locally tailored. The Regional Clinical Director Nursing is a senior clinical leadership position in the National Public Health Service, a member of the Te Manawa Taki Regional Leadership Group and the Regional Clinical and Professional Leadership Team. The primary purpose of this full-time, permanent position is to provide leadership and advice, with responsibility for supporting the delivery of safe and effective regional public health services within Te Manawa Taki region. You will lead and support the development of the nursing workforce and help lead team(s) to deliver complex pieces of work, and to support the professional development of the team members. The organisational impact of the position is on the development of a high functioning leadership group to drive an organisational culture that supports the nursing team and their clinical, allied, and technical colleagues to work to full scope. The successful candidate for this role would need to be located within the Te Manawa Taki region. Mōu - About you You are an experienced leader with a broad nursing career and have the ability to utilise experiences and skills to lead change and quality improvements. With proven supervision, mentoring, coaching, and teaching skills you are able to provide reflective, servant leadership that is grounded in Te Tiriti understanding, supports equity, builds system wide connections, and enables teams to thrive through culturally safe connections.
  • New Zealand Registered Nurse with current Annual Practicing Certificate
  • A Masters degree in Nursing or equivalent
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in senior nursing leadership roles, with a broad nursing experience in public health of at least 10 years and proven supervision, mentoring, coaching, and teaching skills
  • Experience in Public Health Nursing leadership is advantageous but not essential
  • Adept in leading change, and service and quality improvement initiatives
  • Able to apply critical thinking, use sound judgment to develop options and knowledge of the machinery of government, and policy development, is preferable
  • Experience in developing professional frameworks and governance systems
  • Demonstrable understanding of kawa and tikanga and a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi & some experience working in partnership with iwi & Māori communities
  • Demonstrable understanding & experience working in partnership with Pacific communities
