  1. Ensures implementation of the Ministry of Health regulations, the Hospital Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations and the Department Policy and Guidelines.
  2. Supervises the work done in Hematology department by technicians including quality control protocols – both internal & external.
  3. Provides a strategic approach in diagnosing hemolytic disorders where detailed and stepwise diagnostic tools are implemented to arrive at a diagnosis.
  4. Provides further techniques like special stains, cytochemistry, polarizing or Immunofluorescent or electron microscopy if needed and if available in improving his diagnosis.
  5. Performs discussions with the referring clinician if required to help in his diagnosis.
  6. For the benefit of the patient, he might volunteer for a second opinion by a person specially trained for the purpose or his peers in improving the quality of diagnosis.
  7. Regularly participates & contributes to the CME programs, accreditation programs, clinical audit programs, department related purchase policies, action plans of the department and similar.
  8. Focuses on patients with diseases of the blood and lymphatic system.
  9. Diagnoses and treats anemia, blood clots, blood cancers and other bleeding disorders.
  10. Often referred by primary care physicians as a specialist in this field required for a proper diagnosis and treatment plan, so they may also utilize physician’s notes and records in the treatment of their patients.
  11. Maintains the highest professional standard of documentation in line with policies and procedures and internationally accepted standards.
  12. The Consultant will review outpatient’s summaries and shall prepare reports and statistical analysis as required of him; such reports will be prepared in a timely manner in accordance with the standards within the Department.
  13. Keeps current with new procedures and techniques in the field of his/her specialty.
  14. Required to be involved in the departmental Performance Improvement activities.
  15. Participates in providing education and support for all junior staff in the department and supports continuing medical education, providing teaching materials as part of the professional development of the staff.
  16. Participates in committee membership, if assigned.
  17. The Consultant has a responsibility to report any occurrence not consistent with the operation of the Clinic or standard of service for patients, employees or visitors and situations which put patients, staff and visitors at risk of injury or other harm.
  18. Provides leadership for organizational performance improvement activities.
  19. Maintains strictest confidentiality.
  20. Co-ordinates and exercises overall professional control over the activities of Medical Registrars for ensuring that sound administrative and professional standards of medical practice are maintained.
  21. Provides overall responsibility for all medical in-patients, out patients and emergencies. Conducts regular ward rounds on all patients.
  22. Answers calls from the wards regarding conditions related to care given to the patient.
  23. Accepts all other additional assignments found necessary by the Head of Department.
Qualifications, Competencies and Skills Education PhD/Royal College/Fellowship/Membership Experience Minimum 5 to 7 years post PhD/Fellowship/Membership experience in relevant specialty Licensure Language Well versed in English and Arabic Performance Competencies
  1. Knowledge of Required Organizational practices/patient safety standards.
  2. Command over professional code of ethics, medical bylaws.
  3. Knowledge of evidence-based Age specific/Population specific patient care clinical guidelines accepted by the hospital.
  4. Culturally competent (Kuwaiti patients’ culture and beliefs).
  5. AHA certified BLS/ACLS/PALS/ALSO/NRP as applicable per training policy.
